The Paris 100m is no secret, Noah Lyles leaned at the line and beat Kishane Thompson by just 0.005 seconds, both men clocking 9.79. Words have come from Kishane, “Imagine going from 0 to 95 meters or 90 meters about, and you’re at the back of the field. Dipping is not going to save you the win. You get what I’m saying?” It did exactly that for the American. He had the worst reaction time on the field that day in the 100m finals of the Olympic and yet went home with gold. His final 10 meters, covered in 0.86 seconds, were faster than Thompson’s, and his lean at the finish line, whether practiced or instinctive, proved decisive. A new USA vs Jamaica rivalry was born that day in track and field.
Usain Bolt weighed in that the delay before the gunshot was fired created pressure on Kishane, who was in his first major championships final. Thompson himself had said, “So, yeah, of course, when he’s ready to step back on the track and we meet, it’s going to be fireworks for sure.” And then came the day – Silesia Diamond League: Olympics final match between Noah Lyles and Kishane Thompson after 371 days and the revenge has been taken.
“Revenge in a dish best served cold,” said the commentator as the 100m came to a halt at the Silesia Diamond League. Kishane Thompson has avenged Paris. Noah Lyles and the Jamaican had the world watching as they lined up in the 100m today. Thompson? He was a bullet, a speeding horse that never gave up the lead once he was out front. He was quick out of the blocks, took the lead ahead of Lyles, Kenny Bednarek, Coleman, Sibine, and everybody, and nobody could outrun the fastest man of the 2025 season. By clocking a 9.87, Thompson had won.

Meanwhile, Noah Lyles, though, showed some very good signs, but he could not outrun his Olympic rival. Thompson was fast; he didn’t give anybody a chance to overtake him for the win. Lyles chased for the third position with Coleman and Bednraek, but this is the 100m Olympics gold medalist we are talking about. The Olympian accelerated in the final 40m of the race to claim the silver in 9.90 seconds.

Bednarek and Coleman clocked the same time of 9.96 seconds, but the 60m world record holder had to settle for fourth. How do Thompson and Lyles feel about their races? Well, that is interesting.

Thompson Disappointed, While Noah Lyles Satisfied With the Race
After the race, Kishane Thompson was not very happy with his performance. He said, “My race today was not so good, not so bad. I enjoyed competition against Noah today. It is all about execution: I had problems with that, but I am finding it. The key is to find the momentum in the race and to maintain it till the end. ” Despite the rivalry, the Olympic silver medalist and the Olympic gold medalist in the 100m do share a good relationship. After the race, despite the back and forth exchanges between the two from before, there was no bitterness in any one of them as they hugged it out immediately. Though this race was an improvement from 9.95 at the Gyulai István Memorial, he would want to be faster.
He also said that nobody is perfect, but he’s focused on building his strengths while working on his weaknesses. Looking back on Paris last year, he admitted it was a big learning experience, one that taught him it’s just him against himself. “No disrespect to my rivals, but anything is possible when you execute well,” he concluded. Noah Lyles, on the other hand, is satisfied.

The US track and field athlete said, “It is a great stepping stone. I needed to see a sub-10. I needed to see winning, beating people, I took out some really big heads today, people who run 9.7 and 9.8. I am getting the confidence. It makes me really excited for not only today but also for next week and Tokyo.” Before this, Lyles had clocked a time of 10.10 seconds in his 100m season debut in London and then 10.00 in the heats of the USTAF championships.
