The star horse of all times, Clooney, has been injured. Recently, the Olympic ride for Switzerland’s showjumper, Martin Fuchs, has been taken to the hospital to seek treatment for the same.

Clooney and Martin Fuchs
Clooney 51, was owned by Luigi Baleri and ridden by an outstanding companion in Martin Fuchs. Furthermore, the 15-year-old grey Westphalian gelding Clooney is one of the most successful horses of all time. During his partnership with the Swiss, he won the Longines FEI (International Federation of Equestrian Sports) Championship in Rotterdam last August.

Not only this but also, the duo performed incredibly during the 2019 season wherein they won the CSI5 1.60m Rolex Grand Prix in Geneva in 2020 December. Additionally, a silver medal at the World Equestrian Games in 2018 and two bronze medals. This was for the team in the European Championship in 2015 and 2017. Also, achieving the Vice-Champion title from the Longines FEI World Cup Finals in 2019 is a cherry on top.

?“Clooney was already great as a young horse,” said Martin Fuchs, talking to the showjumping committee. He added by saying that, “Before we brought him, he placed well in the German Championships for Young Horses in Warendorf and in the FEI WBFSH jumping World Breeding Championship for Young Horses in Lanaken as a 7-year-old. I loved him already from watching his videos and then even more when I tried him,” shared Fuchs.

Even though Martin used to describe Clooney as a “bit difficult” in the initial phase, the duo developed a strong bond. Indeed, it contributed to a very successful run of achievements starting from the year 2015, 2016 and 2017 Nations Cup finals in Barcelona to Olympics in 2021.

Clooney’s injury
The powerful European champion experienced an unfortunate fall on 16th August 2021. Hence, he is currently undergoing treatment for a devastating injury. However, we do not wish for him to retire this soon. Fuchs spoke to Horse&Hound about his horse’s injury.

?He injured his right shoulder very seriously and everyone involved is doing their best for Clooney?s wellbeing,? said Martin. He further added by saying, “He is in the Zurich hospital and we are trying to make a retirement on the field possible. At this time I have no further information and will keep everyone updated. Pray for our Clooney.”

On top of that, Fuchs added by saying that no more information can be shared at this moment. However, the fact that the horse might retire is an indication of the severity of the injury.
Nevertheless, wishing Clooney a very speedy and healthy recovery for future performances. Hoping to see him come back on the field with a physique stronger than ever!
