Suni Lee played a major role in USA’s medal-winning run in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The performance became even more impactful considering the absence of Simone Biles from the competition. The exceptional performance set some really high standards in the sport. Fans are expecting an even better performance from her in the 2024 Paris Olympics. But it seems like the 19-year-old champion has other plans. 

Last month, Lee opened up about her future. While talking to People magazine, the Olympic champion revealed that she hadn’t taken a final decision yet. However, she was still thinking about various aspects before arriving at any conclusion about the upcoming Olympics. “I don’t know. Yeah, I’m still making a decision,” she said.

Suni Lee has other responsibilities

The 2020 gold medalist has been putting a lot of thought into her participation in the Paris Olympics. Lee was of the realization that competing on the global level has its own demands and she was unsure whether she could deliver on them. Lee said, “We’ll have to see, though, because… I don’t know, it just seems like a lot of time to continue elite gymnastics… but yeah, it’s definitely something that I’m thinking about.” The rapid growth of Suni’s stature has given her a lot of responsibilities to manage. 

The 19-year-old second-year college student from Alabama has risen to stardom in the past two years. Lee’s iconic performance in the Tokyo Olympics left everyone awestruck. Her popularity growth has been exponential since then. She is among USA’s top 10 student-athletes and has been going through a transition phase in her life. Lee is yet to complete her education, and she’s been traveling a lot to balance her studies and training.

The icon is giving serious thought to the Paris Olympics

The rising star has kept her fan’s hopes alive by saying that she wants to be a part of the Olympic team in 2024. In a recent interview with Axios, Lee said, “I do want to try and make the next Olympic team,”. She further added that participating in the upcoming Olympics is definitely on her list. It’s the work-life balance that she is worried about. “I’m definitely starting to take it day by day, just trying to figure out…” the Olympic star said. 

Various athletes like Simone Biles have emphasized anxiety problems due to the over-exertion of body and mind. It would be intriguing to see how the 19-year-old manages her workload to keep herself in perfect condition to compete. While experts and fans are looking forward to her presence, the sophomore has plenty of time to decide on her participation at the Olympic event.
