

Ben Maher, the Tokyo Olympics champion, recently performed incredibly at the London Longines Global Champions Tour. He and his companion, Explosion W, received a standing ovation for the same!
Benjamin Richard Maher MBE is a British showjumper. He has been representing Great Britain since the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, the European Championship in 2009 and London Olympics in the year 2012. He has also emerged victorious in the last two Olympics held in Tokyo and Rio. Securing the 12th in the 2016 Olympic Games but, sweeping the gold in 2021, he’s surely come a long way!

Global Champions Tour
It is one of the most prestigious competitions for all equestrian athletes. The Longines Global Champions Tour comprises 16 separate events. Not only this, but it also aims to unite all the chart-topping showjumpers in the FEI (International Federation for Equestrian Sports) world rankings to jump off at particular venues and in cities all across the world.
This year, the 9th leg of the tour began in London. Further, beginning from 13th August and ending on 15th August, events took place at the Chelsea hospital on the banks of the River Thames. Other hosting cities of the tour in 2021 include Mexico City, New York, Shanghai, Madrid, Hamberg, Saint Tropez, Doha, Monaco, Paris, Berlin, Valkenswaad and Rome. Last, the grand finale of the GCT season will be held in Prague. Indeed, it seems to be an exciting tour for all the athletes taking part!

Ever since Ben secured the topmost position on the podium by riding Explosion W at the Summer Games, the duo has been unstoppable. Recently, they performed at the Global Champions Tour in London. The entire crowd appreciated their performance.
Post their glorious sweep in Tokyo, the duo appeared in London with an aim to recreate history at the GCT. This victory was the silver lining in Ben’s career. Thus, the standing ovation was perhaps the much-needed reward he was yearning for.
