“They Push Me”- Ariarne Titmus Reveals How Training With Boys Boosted Her Abilities To Win Olympic Gold

The 21-year-old American sensation, Ariarne Titmus took the world by storm with her amazing performances in Tokyo. The young Aussie grabbed two gold medals in 200m and 400m freestyle swimming competitions. Recently, Titmus opened up about how a team of young boys motivated her to improve her performance while training for Tokyo.

Ariarne’s performances caused a huge upset to the American, Katie Ledecky who was considered the favorite to sweep up the golds. Ariarne’s unusual training methods certainly paid dividends in Tokyo as she exceeded expectations.

How did Titmus train for the Olympics?

Titmus had to train hard to give a memorable performance in her debut Olympics in Tokyo. Therefore, she shared her success story by saying, “In the past year, Elijah Whittington’s moved across to dean’s program so I’ve had him there, doing the sessions with me. He’s obviously a lot faster than I am but I’m not quite up there with him but it’s just good to have someone there, kind of in the same boat as you.

“Doing the same sessions as, so it’s just easier to get through it knowing that you know, they kind of have the same goals and going through the grind together. But also, we’ve got some younger boys that are around that 16, 17 age that is kind of like the perfect speed for me that push me in training and love the work. So, that’s been really good actually, leading up to this Olympics“.

Indeed, training with boys helped her boost her speed. With such strategies, potential and the right mindset, Titmus has immense potential to build on the already significant reputation that she has created for herself.
