Lindsey Vonn might have the guts to come back to competitive skiing at the age of 40. But the skiing legend is not brave enough to face the loss of her near and dear ones! Truly, the pangs of separation are always hard to bear for any individual. But for Vonn, the heartbreaking news came at a very sensitive moment. Well, in a recent Instagram post, Lindsey Vonn stated that her nine-year-old canine, Lucy, has passed away. Lucy, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, was nine years old at the time of her demise. Over the years, Vonn has regularly shared her activities with her beloved Lucy. Together, they were spotted riding hot air balloons, biking, and going for hikes.

Recalling the nostalgic moments, Vonn wrote, “RIP Lucy🐶🕊️… today my sweet, sweet Lucy left us… 9 years ago she came into my life… We traveled the world together, skied, hiked, biked, explored, went down waterfalls, up in air balloons, to the Olympics… we went on SO many incredible adventures together, and created so many memories that I am beyond lucky to have shared with her.” What’s more? Vonn stated that the duo even had their exclusive TV show together!

Reacting to the heartbreaking news, track and field legend Allyson Felix took to the comments section, trying to comfort Lindsey. Felix wrote, “I’m so sorry, Linds, thinking of you.” Vonn went on to state that she knows that Lucy was up in the heavens, reunited with her family. The skiing legend pointed out that her mother, Bear, and other members of her family would be pleased to have Lucy along with them.

She further extended her unwavering thanks to the veterinarians who attended to Lucy in the last few days. Lucy was fighting kidney failure for a long time. While Vonn hoped that Lucy might just be able to make it through, unfortunately, the reality turned out to be quite heartbreaking. In fact, Lindsey Vonn had hinted at Lucy’s sufferings previously as well.

Just days earlier, Lindsey spoke openly about her fears for Lucy’s health, revealing the prognosis was grim. “I’ve got to go figure it out,” she said as she left Sun Valley, where she had finished second in the super-G, her first World Cup podium in six years. Instead of a well-earned getaway, Vonn rushed to Utah to be with the little one in her final moments.

Lucy had been a constant presence in Vonn’s career, accompanying her to training sessions and competitions. In Copper Mountain just months ago, Lucy lounged inside a warm lodge, waiting for Lindsey to return. But this time, there would be no more travels. Vonn’s focus shifted from celebration to heartbreak as she faced the painful reality of losing a companion who had been with her through triumphs and setbacks.

While Vonn had another dog, Leo, who was battling cancer, she had shared that he was doing well and remained by her side. But Lucy’s passing marked a heartbreaking loss for the legend. A loss that hit just as she had reclaimed a place on the podium she fought so hard to reach. In such a moment of grief, all we can do is hope for Lucy’s soul to rest in eternal peace.
