Back in September 2023, decorated swimmer Ryan Lochte took to social media to share, “Happy Anniversary my love! The past 5 years we’ve been married have been the happiest of my life. Love you! #5 #anniversary.” Who could have guessed that this picture-perfect love story would soon unravel, ending not just a long marriage but shutting down all hopes of reconciliation. Ryan Lochte and Kayla Rae Reid celebrated Thanksgiving together, spreading love and peace, yet trouble was brewing beneath the happy faces, as the couple recently announced their separation. Months later, though, Lochte appears to have moved on. Why? Because he seems happier than ever with a new love by his side.

Back in June this year, Lochte posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, writing: “I want to take a moment to acknowledge what Kayla shared. This past year has brought major changes for both of us as we’ve come to the difficult decision to end our marriage. I’m deeply grateful for the life we’ve built together and especially for the love we share for our three children.”

The news sent shockwaves through the swimming and Olympic community. After all, just a year ago, when he was bedridden following a near-fatal car crash, it was Kayla who was a rock by his side, looking after him and giving him her unconditional support. Lochte himself had praised her for her loving and caring nature. That’s what makes this sudden split all the more surprising.

And now, in another twist, Lochte appears to have moved on—and he’s making it Instagram official. The 12-time Olympic medalist recently posted a photo holding a mystery woman, Molly Gillihan, with the caption: “Happiness looks good on me. Can’t hear the outside noise. All smiles with you, even through obstacles thrown at us.” This feels like a quick turnaround for Lockhte. Fans can’t help but wonder: was he already in a relationship before the divorce papers were even signed?

Well, sources close to the family have already mentioned that the marriage ended because of what Lochte was doing with his life. According to one source, “He’s damaged so much of their marriage, and he’s broken her heart so many times that she doesn’t know if reconciliation is in their future,” the source told People. The official reason has yet to come forward, but what are Lochte’s thoughts on these allegations?

Ryan Lochte refuses to entertain any third-party interventions

When People reached out to the swimmer for clarification on this topic, he lashed out, stating that third parties shouldn’t have any say in his personal matters. He added that he and his wife have decided to keep the matter as private as possible for the safety of their kids, “Kayla and I both wish to keep this matter private for many reasons, most importantly, to protect our children,” said Lochte.

He further added, “For that reason, I also won’t be commenting on this matter, or replying to allegations made by third parties.”  In her petition, Reid mentions that she is the primary caregiver for their children and is seeking sole parental responsibility, along with majority time-sharing, stating that a 50-50 arrangement would be detrimental to the children. In addition to that, she is demanding child support, alimony, and the use of their Gainesville, Fla., home.

Ryan Lochte has yet to comment on the matter; however, this likely means the case will be dragged out for months before the divorce is properly settled.
