Nothing seems to be going right for Sha’Carri Richardson and Christian Coleman. Merely months after the lovebirds confirmed their relationship status with a loved-up post on Instagram during the USATF Awards Night of Legends, trouble seems to loom heavy in the air.

Just earlier this month, a video made its way to the media circles. As per The Athletic, Richardson was arrested at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and had to spend 19 hours in custody for what appeared to be a case of fourth-degree domestic violence assault. However, Coleman is not a fan of how his girlfriend was treated.

Right from refusing to press charges and declining “to be a victim” as per the police report, to then extending his support to his lady love, Coleman has had his priorities clear. “I feel like it was just a sucky situation all around. I don’t feel as if she should have been arrested,” the 29-year-old had said earlier this week before adding, “People have discussions and emotions and stuff like that. Does she have things that she needs to work on for herself? Of course. But so do I. So do you. So does everybody.”

“She’s a human being and a great person…She just has a lot of things going on. A lot of emotions and forces going on inside of her that not only I can’t understand, but nobody can. Because she’s one of one. … I know that it’s been a tough journey for her this year. But she’s going to bounce back. Like I said, I see it every day. She’s the best female athlete in the world, and she’s going to be just fine. She’s going to be good. I’m going to be good, too,” he further said. And if that wasn’t enough, Coleman is back again with some words of wisdom.

Taking to X on August 8, the Olympic athlete first tweeted, “Crazy how everybody got answers to other people’s problems and not their own. Hypotheticals and think pieces is the main reason we can never come together.”

In another X post, he added, “Sometimes God will really sit you down and make you face yourself. Some things are obvious, time space and healing have to happen. But this is not her end. I think a new beginning. It’s all up to her though, so we’ll see. Regardless..relax.”

Well, Coleman might be troubled mentally after all of the hubbub, but the community has his back. Reddit took time out of their hand to add some words of praise for the sprinter.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Christian Coleman a hero for standing by Sha’Carri Richardson, or is he just naive?

Track-and-field community reacts to Christian Coleman’s post

One fan wrote, “Two of my favourite sprinters 💔. Man! I love you both. I personally wanna see you guys winning on and off the field. Fix the fixables and let God take care of the rest. Peace ☮️”.

Christian Coleman is a Nike athlete, but things might change after their contract lapsed, though it’s unclear exactly when. Meanwhile, a fan seems to be pitching an idea to the multinational company.“I hope Nike renews his contract, he really has matured and is great for the next generation.”

“You’re a class act , wish you both all the very best,” one reaction read. Then, there were many who also extended their strength to the athlete, “Man love is crazy, keep praying it will be hard to be apart for a minute. when you spend every day together for a long time!!”

Furthermore, another fan added, “God be with you both. Mistakes lead to growth. I respect you a lot. I’m also sending her love and a prayer for her to heal and be strong. No one is perfect. Keep your spirits up.” Unlike Coleman, Richardson didn’t directly comment on the fiasco; rather, she took to her Instagram stories to write, “Dear me, there’s nothing you can’t do.”

Last but not least, one social media user wrote, “love, kindness and prayers, hang in there… no answer just giving good vibes”.
