Former NBA Champion Exclaims Kevin Durant Could Match the Luka Doncic Masterclass vs Argentina If Not for ‘System Basketball’

Top medal contenders in the men’s basketball category, Slovenia, have started their Olympics 2020 campaign with a flyer. Unlike fellow contenders USA, the Slovenians were composed in their opening victory. Opponents Argentina were practically helpless, as Sekulic’s side, that was led by Luka Doncic, cruised to victory.

Luka Doncic leads the way for Slovenia

Senior player Luka Doncic paved the way to victory for the Slovenians. Amassing a massive 48 points, he ensured that the Argentine group never had a sniff of victory. In addition to this, Doncic made 5 assists and 11 rebounds, including some stylish plays. The Dallas Mavericks star was aided by Vlatko Cancar, who was a menace in attack.

For Argentina, there were not many positives on the day. They didn’t do much wrong, but failed to maintain any structure to prevent a Slovenian onslaught. Their best players were Luis Scola with 23 points, and Denver Nuggets‘ Facundo Campazzo. Yet, Slovenia totally outplayed the side in every department, and Argentina scored fewer points than their opponents in almost every quarter.

Kendrick Perkins lashes out at Kevin Durant’s role with Team USA after Doncic heroics

Luka Doncic was all over the court in Slovenia’s 118-100 win. Following the instrumental performance, analyst-commentator Kendrick Perkins took a jibe at Team USA, laying out that Kevin Durant could do the same thing for them.

Perkins said that the key reason preventing Durant from dictating play, was head coach Gregg Popovich’s decision of playing system basketball. He tweeted “My God. The crazy thing is that Kevin Durant could do the same but y’all mans Greg Pop got them playing SYSTEM basketball. Truth hurts!!! Carry on…” In USA’s opening fixture, Durant seemed out of sorts, and managed only 10 points. The Brooklyn Nets starlet did not seem comfortable at all, and did not have the flexibility to open up his range.

Team USA will hope to take inspiration from Slovenia and return to winning ways. It cannot be denied that the Americans were up against a tougher opposition, and looked solid in the first half. However, an all-round performance and a KD special will be needed to go all the way!
