Canoeing is a very vast sport in the Olympics. There are plenty of events that will be contested as a part of the schedule. Overall there are 16 medals events in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 when it comes to canoeing.

The unfortunate part about all this is that the United States can’t take part in all of the 16 events. The U.S. has only qualified two male athletes for the Canoeing events. As per NBC, no American male has qualified for the sprint events.

Out of the four qualified U.S. athletes, two of them are men:

Men’s Slalom

Zachary Lokken

Michal Smolen

27-year-old Zachary Lokken has been competing internationally since 2008 but is making his Olympic debut in Tokyo. Lokken won gold at the 2019 Pan American Games in the men’s canoe slalom and is touted to bring success at the Olympics.

On the other hand, Michal Smolen made his Olympic debut in 2016 and is gunning for a podium finish in Tokyo. Smolen is the son of U.S. national slalom team coach Rafal Smolen, and has won gold medals at International events before.
