USA Announces Men’s Canoeing and Kayak Teams for Slalom and Sprint Events for Tokyo Olympics 2020

The United States never fails to send a strong contingent to the Olympic Games. As the Tokyo Olympics 2020 is right around the corner, the Americans named their second-largest Olympic squad in history, comprising more than 600 athletes. From the extensive list, here are the male athletes who will represent the USA in the men’s canoeing events!
Canoeing is one of the water sports at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. It is a highly exciting sport comprising several events. It initially became a part of the Olympic schedule from the 1936 Berlin games and has stood the test of time ever since.

Canoeing is a very vast sport in the Olympics. There are plenty of events that will be contested as a part of the schedule. Overall there are 16 medals events in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 when it comes to canoeing.
The unfortunate part about all this is that the United States can’t take part in all of the 16 events. The U.S. has only qualified two male athletes for the Canoeing events. As per NBC, no American male has qualified for the sprint events.

Out of the four qualified U.S. athletes, two of them are men:
Men’s Slalom
Zachary Lokken
Michal Smolen
27-year-old Zachary Lokken has been competing internationally since 2008 but is making his Olympic debut in Tokyo. Lokken won gold at the 2019 Pan American Games in the men’s canoe slalom and is touted to bring success at the Olympics.
On the other hand, Michal Smolen made his Olympic debut in 2016 and is gunning for a podium finish in Tokyo. Smolen is the son of U.S. national slalom team coach Rafal Smolen, and has won gold medals at International events before.
Men’s Canoeing events at the Tokyo Olympics 2020
There will be eight events in men’s canoeing at the Tokyo Olympics. This will be a mix of two slalom events and six sprint events. All the events will have heats, quarterfinal (¼ ), semi-final, (½ ), and a final.

Germany is the most decorated country in Olympic canoeing history with 70 medals including 32 golds. The United States has won 16 overall and is in 15th position overall. Can Lokken and Smolen add to the tally in Tokyo?
