Simone Biles and Riley Gaines got engaged in a heated public debate on X in early June 2025 after Gaines commented on a Minnesota high school softball team’s celebration post. Biles responded on X by calling Gaines a “straight‑up sore loser” and “bully,”. Biles even commented that the former swimmer should bully someone her own size. Her comments were seen as insulting and body-shaming. The gymnast eventually apologized, but matters had slipped out of her hands long before, bringing in comments from a former teammate.

Former Olympic gymnast and Biles’ former teammate, MyKayla Skinner, publicly backed Gaines. “I commend and appreciate @Riley_Gaines_ for having the courage to speak up. Women like her are not only standing for fairness, but for the future of female athletics itself. She deserves support, not ridicule,” she said. She called the Ohio-born gymnast’s statements deeply troubling. But why was she in support of Gaines? The reason is out now…

In an interview with CBN News on July 11th, 2025, Skinner was asked about her thoughts on the debate that took place on X. She confessed, “Yeah. You know, it was hard to see. I mean, being a big supporter of Riley Gaines, obviously, I haven’t really said anything till now just because it can be scary to speak up and to have a voice, right? But I have always loved what Riley has stood for.” You see, apart from the NCAA waters, Gaines also has some strokes in politics as well. She is a conservative political activist, and what seems obvious from Skinner’s statements, their ideologies match.

She further told that, “just seeing the bullying, the belittling, it just really hit close to home because I had experienced the same thing Riley had last year. And so I knew what she was going through.” In 2024, the former gymnast criticized the new generation of gymnasts as less hardworking. The seven-time Olympic gold medalist responded subtly by posting a team photo captioned “lack of talent, lazy, Olympic champions” after winning the team gold. In response to this, Skinner posted an emotional Instagram video asking Simone Biles to stop the cyberbullying she and her family were receiving.

An interesting take in this story was that she had defended Simone in her original statement. She further confessed to feeling that it was the right time to speak out — both to stand up for others who’ve been bullied and to advocate for fairness in women’s sports, especially regarding transgender participation. She wanted to use her voice to support what she believes in. Skinner has been vocal about all troubles, but one of her most shocking news stories came when she accused the most decorated gymnast of all time of bullying her.

Simone Biles accused of bullying by MyKayla Skinner

In a June 2025 interview on The Will Cain Show, MyKayla Skinner made strong claims about Simone Biles, accusing her of bullying during their time together on Team USA. She stated, “Well, throughout my career, there’s been many times where I have been belittled and bullied by Simone and have wanted to keep quiet for the other athletes.” Skinner shared that throughout her Olympic journey—including camps and training—there were multiple instances where Simone Biles belittled her and others on the team.

And I’ve wanted to stay silent through this because she has a huge platform to have people speak up and stand by her side,” she said. The relationship between Biles and Skinner had taken a major hit after the 2024 incident. Skinner blocked Biles on Instagram. Biles announced the move on X, and teammate Jordan Chiles shared a photo of Biles holding her phone with proof. Several other gymnasts, including Suni Lee and Jade Carey, also blocked Skinner. She said that she felt things died down after her conversation with Simone.

But as she said, “More had started to play into it throughout the Olympic Games. And I was getting bullied.” Skinner revealed that her publicist received hateful threats and comments targeting her family and daughter. She said she reached out personally to Simone Biles and her former teammates, but none of them responded.
