According to the Livestrong December 2023 report, more than 86,000 gymnast-related injury cases have been reported annually in the United States. The worldwide injury counts can be calculated with these stats. In addition to these stats, another heartbreak has struck the gymnastics world as one more Russian gymnast joins this list. While fans are pouring in good wishes and blessings, the Olympic champion, Viktoria Listunova, is resilient enough to get back soon.

The Russian gymnast shared the incident of her injury on her Instagram post. The 19-year-old gymnast got injured a week ago while practicing for her free exercises. The caption says it all: “A week ago, while training while performing free exercises, I suffered a serious injury: an Achilles tendon tear.” She was immediately sent to the hospital and had to go through the surgery the very same day. But every injury or surgery needs time to recover; so does Listunova.

Viktoria Listunova is looking forward to getting back on track soon. She also wrote, “Sports life is not easy. It always gives difficulties that you need to go through 💪🏻.” It’s not the first time that she has gotten injured this badly. 2024 didn’t start well for her, as she got her back injured and had to go through various procedures, exercises, and hospital visits.

Another tragedy that shook the gymnastics community is that of English-American artistic gymnast Charlotte Booth. Last weekend, during the floor finals in the World Cup in Germany, she had her Achilles ruptured and had to go through surgery. If that was not enough, Anya Pilgrim, a sophomore from Florida, slipped dangerously off the uneven bars and slammed straight onto the mats.

Then, Sloane Blakely hurt her lower leg with an under-rotated jump while making her first pass on the floor. Such injuries can even destroy the career of an athlete, and safety measures need to be ensured to reduce the injuries. While both gymnasts are in recovery mode, Viktoria Listunova’s fans are pouring heartfelt blessings.
