At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Jade Carey began the week fighting a stomach illness, unable to eat and often throwing up. During qualifications, weakened by illness, she stumbled and scored just 10.633 on floor, yet she refused to quit. By vault day, she had recovered enough to land a Cheng vault (14.733) and a solid second vault, averaging 14.466 to claim bronze. That resilience not only earned her an individual medal but also fueled Team USA’s gold in the team final. Since then, the gymnastics world has been eagerly waiting to see that magic again, but for now, with this new announcement, Paris remains Jade Carey’s last elite meet.
The 2025 U.S. Classic is scheduled for July 18–19, 2025, at the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. It serves as the final qualifier for both junior and senior elite gymnasts aiming for the 2025 U.S. Championships in New Orleans. Days before, on July 13, Inside Gymnastics Magazine took to their official Instagram handle to post a picture of Jade Carey from the 2024 U.S. Championships – a mid-routine snapshot, doing a gray leotard. The overlay text on the bottom read in all caps, “JADE CAREY IS NOT REGISTERED FOR THE 2025 U.S. CLASSIC IN JULY.”
Further elaborating in the caption, they wrote, “➡️➡️➡️ Olympic gold medalist Jade Carey has not registered to compete at this month’s U.S. Classic Elite competition. After an absolutely stellar senior season with Oregon State University, where she competed a number of high-level skills, many wondered if she may pursue an Elite path this year.” The Olympian had earned the prestigious 2025 AAI Award for her final year performance with the University of Oregon, such was her form. Of course, the gymnastics community had her fans wishing for some show on elite levels.

The magazine further wrote, “Although she has not ruled it out, it appears she’s taking a well-deserved break and traveling after going non-stop from NCAA to Elite to Olympics to Tour to NCAA. Carey continues to make an incredible impact on and off the competition floor, and whatever path she chooses going forward in the sport, we’re always rooting her on!” The 25-year-old had a very busy year. After the Paris Games, she joined Simone Biles’ 2024 Gold Over America Tour, performing in 32 cities across the U.S.

Then, after that, she went on to dominate her senior NCAA season. Off the court, she has taken up a new sport. With her not going to the U.S. Classic, she has joined Jordan Chiles on the list, and her return to Elite gymnastics feels difficult this year.

There might be no elite gymnastics for Jade Carey in 2025
Take a look at the past few years of the life of the 25-year-old. She captured the floor exercise gold at the Tokyo 2020 Games in 2021. This resulted in her being a part of Simone Biles’ ‘Gold Over America Tour’. Further, she had to balance three seasons of NCAA gymnastics at Oregon State University and elite gymnastics as well. Then came Paris, where she claimed a vault bronze and team gold. Since then, she has been on a break and might remain so for the whole 2025 season.

“I think I just want to take the year to kind of come down a little bit,” Carey told Olympics.com Friday (20 September) ahead of the show in Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena, later saying she “probably” wouldn’t try for a spot at the 2025 World Championships. She continued, “I’m not doing elite this year, so I just have them to focus on and that’s it. I’m really excited to jump in with them and be a leader and help get them (OSU Beavers) to where we want to go.”
She wanted to focus on her NCAA season, and she did. Jade Carey claimed seven straight all‑around titles, scored a season‑high 39.925, tied the Pac‑12 record with perfect 10s on floor and beam, and placed fourth all‑around at NCAAs with 51 event titles. How would you rate her 2025 collegiate gymnastics season?
