As the sun-drenched images from Simone Biles’ latest vacation ripple across social media, one photo in particular has drawn more scrutiny than celebration. The gymnast, who appeared in a bright bikini during her Belize trip, didn’t just spark travel envy. She reignited questions about her appearance, questions she seems quietly aware of. And without shying away, Biles further teased the audience. Writing just the words that keep them hooked…

Biles recently shared three Instagram stories capturing her recent moments from her Belize getaway. Radiating warmth and playfulness, the photos showed that she was indeed having fun. One story featured her pug snuggled under a blanket with the caption, “wake up princess, rent is due cause why did you tuck yourself in like this….” Another showed her meeting with fellow gymnast Kaylia Nemour. The post, originally shared by Nemour, read, “A pleasure to see you again @simonebiles.” But it was the third image, taken during her getaway with husband Jonathan Owens, that drew the public’s eye. In it, Biles reclined by a pool, striking a composed pose in a Fendi bikini. “some are saying a new bombshell has entered the villa,” she wrote beneath it.

The photograph and its caption were intended to be lighthearted. However, they aligned with the ongoing conversation about her appearance, particularly the speculation around a possible breast augmentation, which found new fuel in the image. Biles herself has not addressed any recent procedures, nor has she confirmed the rumors of an augmentation. What she has done, however, is speak candidly in the past about cosmetic experiences. Particularly one that left her feeling regretful. “So, for my 27th birthday, I got Botox, like, baby Botox, just right here in my T-zone, and I did not like it,” she revealed during a TikTok session last year. “So I haven’t got it again, and mind you, that was back in March.”

Biles explained that the procedure affected her ability to move her face naturally. “It would randomly do that!” she said, referring to one eyebrow lifting on its own. The unexpected movement lasted for close to twenty seconds at a time, often drawing amused glances from her teammates during practice. “Not doing that again,” she concluded, demonstrating a full range of expressions as evidence that Simone Biles has moved on from the experience.

The conversation around her latest photo may have reopened public curiosity, but Biles has taken a characteristically understated approach. She has not answered the speculation directly. Instead, she has offered snapshots of her current life. Leisure with her dog, reunions with peers, and brief captions hinting at her personality but revealing little else. “Gone to belize,” she wrote beside her poolside post. Whether the message was geographic or symbolic, it was perfectly happy. However, this is not the first time that Biles has been under the radar for her physical appearance.

Simone Biles and scrutiny

Few athletes have been dissected quite like Simone Biles. Her limbs, her musculature, her height. All have been measured, catalogued, and commented upon, often with more scrutiny than curiosity. While most gymnasts contend with pressure inside the arena, Biles has long faced an external lens that undermines her talent.

Over the course of her career, Biles became inescapably aware of the chatter surrounding her body. In a 2020 Vogue interview, she reflected candidly about how people talk about her hair and legs. Analysts noted her compact frame and short limbs, linking them to her dominance in the air. Moreover, one outlet compared her physics to that of a skater pulling in their arms to spin faster.

Biles did not retreat from such commentary. But God made me this way,” she told Vogue, “and I feel like if I didn’t have these legs or these calves, I wouldn’t be able to tumble as high as I can and have all of these moves named after me.” Her remark, quietly firm, captured the conflict many elite athletes face. Justifying their natural form in a world quick to dissect it. For Biles, the path to excellence was never divorced from the burden of being watched.
