The stage for the grandest game of all is slowly and steadily coming into shape. In 2028, under the golden glow of the Los Angeles sun, the Olympics return—not just with tradition, but with revolution. For the first time, American football storms the world’s greatest stage. Helmets crash, hearts race—will Team USA prove that the sport they birthed still bows to no one? Or will a challenger rewrite the playbook? Simone Biles’ husband, Jonathan Owens, has sent a message that might clear this doubt. What is that?
The Chicago Bears posted a reel on May 22, captioned, “Might have some future Olympians 👀.” In the post, Jonathan Owens could be seen sending a message for the LA Olympics. The man donning a Chicago Bears compression cap, shorts, and Jersey appeared to be heading to practice alongside the rest of the team when they asked him, “Who on the team should be on the Olympic flag football team?” Owens answered in the most Owens way possible. The man pointed his bottle at the camera and said, “What does the water bottle say?”
The bottle had paper glued around its neck that read the initial JO. “I am bringing another gold medal to the family,” he said. Owens took the post to his Instagram story and posted it with “👀👀“. The NFL safety is the husband of the most decorated gymnast of all time, a literal GOAT of her sport. Simone Biles’ 7 Olympic gold medals (4 in Rio, 3 in Paris) are no secret to anyone who even has a touch of gymnastics, and now even Owens is committed to putting an Olympic gold in that showcase.

What’s also interesting is that this would be an Olympics debut not only for Jonathan Owens if he makes the team, but also for any other NFL players who make the team as well. Matter of fact, the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will mark the first time American football is officially included as a medal sport. NFL owners voted in favor of the proposal for the league to participate in the flag football competition at the upcoming 2028 Olympic Games. Yes, it would be called Flag Football in the Olympics.

Also, no more than one player from each team could participate in the event. Makes so much sense of the question asked in the reel now. Before this, American football was featured as a demonstration sport in the 1932 Olympics, that too was hosted by the City of Los Angeles. Now, when it comes back to the city and so does the sport, it would be interesting to see what happens to Owens’ commitment. But at the same time, what about his wife, Simone Biles?
While it remains unclear for Simone Biles…
To answer the question whether Simone Biles will be or be not in the LA Olympics, she will. Talking to the French Newspaper, L’Equipe, she said, “You’re going to tell me that the perspective of the Games in Los Angeles is fascinating. And I will be there, whether on the apparatus or in the stands, I still haven’t decided.” Thus, it still remains in question if her glory could be seen again in 2028.

Can Jonathan Owens match Simone Biles' Olympic legacy, or is he setting himself up for failure?

The latest update from her for the Olympics also remains uncertain. While talking to the Olympics.com on April 22, 2025, she said, “Right now, I’m still focusing on healing physically and mentally because doing the Olympics, it kind of takes a toll on your body.” This was after she had won her fourth Laureus Sport Award of her career. She continued, “I haven’t got that much time because I’ve sacrificed so much to hang out with my family, my friends, my husband, and stuff like that.”
But again, not all hopes are dead because in there she also said, “It is in LA, it’s back in the States, which is so exciting. But if I’m gonna compete again, I’m not so sure. But I will be at the Olympics —whether it’s on the floor or in the stands.” What are your thoughts about her being at the LA Olympics? Do you think she will come back?
