So, you think you know Simone Biles because you’ve been following her since the very beginning? Well, think again! Because the ‘Queen of Flips’ has made a few revelations through a casual ‘Get Ready With Me’ video on social media. From childhood misconceptions to untold career what-ifs, the Olympic legend shared stories that were equal parts funny, honest, and surprising. Between personal quirks, life lessons, and little-known facts about her journey, one revelation stood out. It was one where she hinted that she could have represented an entirely different country in gymnastics.

The seven-time Olympic gold medalist revealed several things about herself that many people might not have known. But it was the revelation about her dual citizenship that caught many fans’ attention. Biles stated, “I also have dual citizenship – America and Belize – because that’s where my mom [Nellie Biles] is from.” While she has always competed for Team USA, that status technically opened the possibility of representing Belize in international gymnastics. The news shines a light not only on her unmatched achievements but also on the lesser-known chapters of her background and identity.
What adds another layer is that Biles began gymnastics as a child after a daycare field trip at around age six, unexpectedly discovering a talent that catapulted her into history. She said, “Gymnastics is the only and the very first sport that I tried.” And she implied that her correct height is 4’8”. She went on and disclosed that Jonathan Owens is her second relationship, and that she went to speech therapy as a child. We all knew that she didn’t watch movies as a child. But there was another profession where Simone Biles could have worked on, had she not become a professional gymnast.

Biles continued, “I used to wanna be a children’s pediatric nurse or a NICU nurse. I was committed to UCLA before I went professional.” Had she followed her childhood dream of becoming a pediatric or NICU nurse, the world might never have witnessed her redefine gymnastics on a global stage. It’s a striking thought that the same compassion driving her toward caregiving is the very grace and strength she now channels into every routine.

Simone Biles also confessed, “When I was younger, I thought only boys with the name Adam had Adam’s apple. And my brother’s name was Adam. I’ve had three plastic surgeries, and two of them you’ll never be able to tell. I did the commencement speech at WashU. That was my first time ever in my life wearing a cap and gown.” She didn’t even do her own laundry and wash dishes till she moved out.

But let’s keep that aside for the moment and focus on Biles’ relationship with Belize. Did you know that the Belizeans have seldom backed out on displaying their pride in Simone Biles? Well, let’s take a look at a few instances that show how strong her relationship is with Belize.
Simone Biles receives immeasurable love from Belize
During her record-breaking Olympic runs, Belizeans proudly claimed her as one of their own. They flooded social media with messages of support and national pride. After Biles dominated at the 2016 Rio Olympics, the Belize Tourism Board congratulated her and revealed their pride in her. Moreover, they invited the Final Five to Belize for a vacation once the gymnasts were ready to relax. And soon after that, Biles replied, “my second home, you betta belize we’re coming ♥️😉.”

And you’d be surprised to know that Simone Biles holds the symbolic keys to San Pedro Ambergis Caye. Back in 2019, during her six-day private visit to Belize, Mayor Daniel Guerrero held a brief ceremony in honor of the gymnast. And that’s when Manuel Heredia, the Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation back then, presented Biles with a token of appreciation.
She has often visited Belize to celebrate the milestones of her life. Be it celebrating with Jonathan Owens or sharing the heritage with her mother, Belize has become an integral part of her life. But what would have happened had she become a part of the Belizean national gymnastics team instead of the American team?
