Last month, in June 2025, Suni Lee made a sudden social media appearance, decked in complete gymnastics gear as she posted a story saying, “Check back tomorrow for the full video.” While it raised fan expectations that her hiatus might be finally coming to an end, there was still no definitive answer about Lee’s training, gymnastics return, or competitive plans for the year. For now, there continues to be silence regarding that. However, there has been some positive change. Absent for over 11 months now, Lee has made an honest confession regarding the sport…
The last time anyone saw Suni Lee compete was at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Ever since her three-medal haul there, she missed the Gold Over America Tour 2024, followed by the NCAA championships and the Pan American Championships in 2025. However, off the mats, she has had an active presence. Quite recently, she shot for the 2025 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. And now, she is on vacation in Thailand. And that’s exactly where she gave out a small but significant confirmation!
On July 10, Suni Lee uploaded an Instagram story of her playing golf in Bangkok, Thailand. As she focused and played her first shot in all sincerity, the club struck the ball incorrectly, leading the shot to be a complete miss from what she expected. A surprised Lee then looked over at the camera and chuckled, as her jaw dropped in astonishment. The one shooting her burst into laughter, too. But in that moment, Lee probably got hit with reality…

Suni Lee seemed to have realised that golf might not be her cup of tea. That’s why she captioned her story, “yea imma stick to gymnastics.” Aside from all the fun and laughter, this seemed a positive confirmation for the gymnastics fans, hinting that the six-time Olympic medalist might continue being associated with the sport. While Lee’s health concerns and her long-drawn hiatus weren’t looking as positive signs, Lee’s fans now certainly have something to pin their hopes on! After all, she herself confessed to sticking to gymnastics!

And honestly, this reassurance was much needed. Like it or not, Suni Lee has only been sharing sporadic updates about her gymnastics plans this year. In March 2025, she teased her fans about her uneven bars return after over 200 days of silence since Paris. That’s when she added a clip from the gym and wrote, “Was feeling bored so I went into the gym for the first time since the Olympics, about 7 months ago?? And I caught the first yeager i tried, my shoulders are doneeee for after this.”

However, till just a week before the Olympic trials, she was struggling as she went into a relapse. But that’s just a part of it. While battling both these incurable kidney conditions, Suni Lee also kept battling with Eczema. A type of dermatitis, the gymnast confessed how it has made her confidence take a real dip on occasions, “It made me not want to be seen anywhere because I knew people were looking at it because it was so inflamed.” It even affected Lee’s security levels while she was competing.
Now, after such massive challenges, it was only normal for her to want a break. But amid this, we at least have positives that she might not be done with gymnastics, especially after what she just said. What do you think about this? Let us know below!
