I am disappointed for our student-athletes that they will not be given the opportunity to compete this weekend under the same scoring parameters afforded to every other Division I program.” The statement came from Arkansas gymnastics head coach,  Jordyn Wieber, after her appeal to the NCAA to allow Arkansas to compete in a regular-season meet at Oregon State to improve their NQS was denied. A better NQS would have led to them being a part of the SEC championship, which they have cut off due to new NQS rules. While they failed to qualify for the SEC, they had a mixed NCAA season as well. However, the one who was a member of the 2012 Olympics gold medalists, the Fierce Five, might have a plan to succeed the next season. What is that?

The Razorback gym has announced the comeback of a triple threat for the next season. The team’s official Instagram account posted a picture on Thursday, May 1, 2025, that may have sent chills down the spines of many NCAA teams. Cropped over a white background were three Razorbacks gymnasts: Cami Weaver, Frankie Price, and Leah Smith. Written all over the photo were three words in big, bold letters: “ONE MORE YEAR.

The post captioned, “All eyes on Year 5️⃣ for this trio of Arkansas All-Americans 🐗,” announced the comeback of this triple threat for a 5th season with the Razorback gymnastics. Earlier in the day, they had also posted a reel with the caption, “Bringing back a triple threat next season 👀,” which was a compilation of various clips where the trio can be seen performing in the meets and absolutely smashing in the Razorback leotard. The trio made their debut in the 2022 season, but Frankie and Cami did not perform in their freshman season and were therefore eligible to return to swing. Smith’s final year got cut short due to an injury, and so she was eligible for a 5th-year run as well. The trio has been putting up good performances as well.

In the 2025 season alone, they had their fair share in the team’s performance. Cami Weaver posted 9.850+ on vault in seven meets and had five top-three finishes and one event title on vault. Hitting a season high (9.900)  on the vault twice and two 9.800+ on beam, two appearances are also to her name. Frankie Price registered 10 scores of 9.850+ on the floor, including a three-week streak of 9.900+ from Feb. 28-March 14. She won five event titles on the floor and scored 9.900+ in every home meet. She posted a season-high 9.950 twice and finished with a 9.915 NQS (30th nationally). But what about Leah Smith?

Though Smith’s 2025 season was cut short due to her injury, she performed in five meets, and she rocked them. She hit 9.850+ three times on the floor this season, highlighted by a 9.925 in the upset over No. 2 LSU. She also posted season highs of 9.875 on vault (3rd place at the Tri Meet) and 9.850 on bars at Oklahoma, the team’s top bars score that meet.

Their return would have definitely sparked excitement in the Razorback locker room and for the coach after a mixed season!

Will Arkansas' triple threat finally break through the NCAA barriers and prove their mettle next season?

Have an interesting take?

The 2025 title run was a mixed bag for Razorback gymnastics

The season did not start great for the Razorbacks, and they ended the season with a win-loss record of 9-13. They did not win any of the four away meets and lost 7 at neutral venues, whereas they won only five. Though the home meet record stood 4-2, they lost 6 out of 8 meets in the SEC conference. In the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad, their first meet of the season, they lost against all three of Kentucky, Ohio State, and UCLA. But they started their SEC season with a bang, securing a win over defending NCAA champions LSU on January 24, with a 196.875 to 196.600 score.

The Metroplex challenge was again a mixed bag, three wins in the first meets, three losses in the last three meets. But the team did put forward a great performance in the regional semifinals when their key floor gymnast, Frankie Price, got injured. They finished second with a score of 197.550 and advanced to the Regional Final.

In the Regional Final, Arkansas posted a score of 197.375. The competition was intense, with No. 1 LSU leading the pack with a 198.050, followed closely by No. 8 Michigan State at 198.000 and No. 9 Kentucky at 197.625. And the Razorbacks failed to qualify for the Nationals. The season might not have gone as they planned, but would the comeback of the triple threat in the 2025-26 season have any effect?
