Viewers across the globe have witnessed multiple iconic moments in just the first week of the ongoing Tokyo Olympics 2020. From controversial decisions to major upsets, it’s been one hell of a rollercoaster ride. Week 1 has been dominated by news pertaining to Team USA gymnast, Simone Biles.
But there have been other weird and peculiar incidents that have taken place in the last 7 days. Take for example the case of Slovenian cyclist, Primoz Roglic. He won the first medal for his country in Tokyo after winning gold in the men’s individual cycling event.
However, he didn’t realize that at first and continued cycling way past the finish line. Officials had to intervene and ask him to stop. If you found that unusual, you’re gonna be pinching yourself when you read about Australia’s Jessica Fox.

Australian canoeist has a condom to thank for winning Tokyo Olympics bronze
France-born Jessica Fox is an Australian world and Olympic champion slalom canoeist. She has been competing at the international level since 2008. Jess made her Olympic debut at the 2012 London Olympics, winning a silver medal in the K1 event. She won a bronze in the same event four years later in Rio.

However, her performance in 2021 will be remembered for a different reason. Fox won bronze in this year’s K1 event as well. But she made headlines after she revealed that she used a condom to fix the nose of her kayak.

She took to Instagram earlier today and showed how a carbon mixture is first placed on the kayak’s damaged nose. Fox then used a condom to hold the mixture in place and give it a smooth finish. Not a bad way to win bronze, eh?

Later on Thursday, Jessica claimed her first Olympic gold medal in the C1 canoe slalom final. She posted a timing of 105.04. That was three seconds faster than the one who came in second. German canoeist Andrea Herzog took home bronze.
