This year’s Tokyo Olympics 2020 Games are turning out to be an exciting affair. Viewers across the globe have been witness to epic last-minute wins and losses since the Summer Games kicked off in July. We’re slowly edging towards the conclusion of the games but there are still a lot of medals left to play for.
China, the United States of America, and hosts Japan (in that order) top the Tokyo Olympics medals tally at the moment. The USA has more medals than China (97 vs 78). However, the latter has won more gold medals and hence sits atop the rankings.
China further strengthened their position at the top after wrestler Sun Yanan beat America’s Sarah Hildebrandt in the 50 Kg weight class semifinals on Friday morning.

China’s Sun Yanan pulled off a major upset by outwrestling Hildebrandt. It was the American who was in the driving seat right from the start of the bout. At the start of the bout, Hildebrandt scrambled for a takedown 1:20 into the match, then scored two more points on a gut wrench at the 1:40 mark.
Sarah led 7-1 at the halfway break and looked in prime position to add another gold medal to America’s tally. Sun scored two points once the bout restarted and reduced the margin to 7-3. Sun, who was a world champion in 2013 and a bronze medalist at the 2016 Olympics, knew that there was more to wrestle for and continued to step up her aggression.
