The Tokyo Olympics are finally upon us after being postponed by an entire year because of the pandemic. Athletes are gearing up for their respective events and are eager to make their nation proud. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson took up the role of introducing Team USA to the world.

The blockbuster movie star introduced some of the main contestants of a 600+ strong United States contingent. It is the second-largest contingent ever sent by the nation to the Olympic Games.

“She’s absolutely the greatest gymnast the world has ever seen,” Johnson said, speaking about Simone Biles. “But even if there’s nothing lefts to prove, there’s a chance to launch herself even higher, into the rarest air of immortality.”

While Michael Phelps has retired, the USA’s swimming team still holds a significant chance of winning the events in Tokyo. Caeleb Dressel and Katie Ledecky are the ones to watch in this effort. Dwayne Johnson described Ledecky as an athlete that “swims like a machine created to wreak havoc and decimate with impunity. But in reality, she’s about the nicest person you’ll ever meet. And kindness matters, always.”

“On dry land, he’s impressive. In the water, he is simply lethal,” Johnson said, describing Caeleb Dressel. “Gold medal winner, world record holder, and makes dominating in small trunks look cool as hell.”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson highlighted Team USA’s best traits

Noah Lyles has emerged as the man who can potentially replace Usain Bolt as the fastest man on the planet, not only in the 200m sprint but also as a showman. “He makes running as fast as you can look the way it’s supposed to look: Damn fun,” the former WWE Champion said.

However, the highlight of Team USA’s contingent is the presence of working mothers weathering the odds to continue their athletic careers. Allyson Felix, Alex Morgan, and more lead the banner in this regard.

“They’re barrier breakers who’ve proven the power of their platform,” Johnson said about the team. “And they’re teams who have dominated for generations with no intention of changing the script for this one.”
