The last couple of days have been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride for Team USA gymnast Simone Biles. The 24-year old is widely regarded as one of the most decorated gymnasts to participate in the Olympic Games. But her decision to opt out of the recent team gymnastics and all-around competition finals came as a shock to viewers across the globe.

The Ohio-born athlete received massive support on social media after making this huge call. She chose to put her mental health ahead of her Olympic obligations and she deserves credit for that.

But there have been certain celebrities and public figures who have different opinions on the same. However, media outlets back in Russia have not held back in their criticism of the American youngster.

Russian media criticize Simone Biles’ decision to skip Tokyo Olympics final

Russian newspaper Sport Express was one of the few outlets to express their displeasure over Simone’s decision to skip the final. Here’s what they wrote in the latest edition of their daily paper.

“But is [withdrawing] what the leader of his national team should do in the final of the Olympics. Simply put – Biles could not stand it. Including the pressure of the Russian team. Well, if the opponent needs to be removed in this way – why not.”

“Just two years ago in Stuttgart at the World Championships, she took five gold medals out of six.?But if things are really that serious – the Olympic end of the 24-year-old American star is in danger of becoming inglorious,” the report read.

We’re not sure about the authenticity of such claims but we must give Simone the benefit of doubt right as she focuses on her mental health.
