The Manchester City striker sent social media into a frenzy on Sunday after finally saying goodbye to his trademark long blonde hair. Hours before the new Premier League season got underway, Haaland revealed a sharp buzz cut with the cheeky caption, “Short hair don’t care 😅✂️.”
But the haircut itself wasn’t the only thing catching fans’ attention…
In a behind-the-scenes YouTube video, Johansen was right there as Haaland sat in the barber’s chair. She looked genuinely stunned as the first chunks of his famous locks fell away. “I think I will cry,” she admitted before the transformation began.
Later on, Johansen also showed off a fresh haircut of her own on Instagram, posting a photo with the caption, “A lil refresh for fall x.” That was enough for fans to connect the dots, with one follower summing up the timing perfectly: “Family haircut day.”
The reaction quickly turned the couple’s matching refresh into a lighthearted social-media moment. Another fan wrote, “The whole family got a new look.”
Haaland’s girlfriend’s reaction only became more dramatic once the haircut was underway. After seeing the hair in her hands, she let out an “Oh my god,” and when Haaland finally revealed the finished buzz cut, she covered her mouth in disbelief.
Then came the verdict. “It looks nice. You look cute,” Johansen told him. For Haaland, who had clearly been aiming for something a little more intimidating, the “cute” assessment was perhaps not exactly what he wanted. Still, Johansen appeared to approve of the finished product. “I’ll wake up in the morning and think, who’s that?” she joked.
While sharing thoughts about their new looks, another fan wrote, “you and erling both 😍.”
Haaland’s new look was already becoming a talking point among fans. The striker had spent his four years at Manchester City building an unmistakable image around those long blonde locks, even as supporters embraced the Viking-like hairstyle as part of his identity.

Haaland had plenty of people to convince before even showing the new style to the public. In his video, he called several familiar faces to reveal the transformation.
Noel Gallagher laughed before telling him, “You look about 17 years old.” Jack Grealish was even more amused, joking that Haaland looked “about 10 years old.”
But seeing him pairing up with his girlfriend for a haircutting session, a fan wrote, “Matching haircut with boyfriend, relationship goals.”
Zlatan Ibrahimović, had previously warned him never to cut his hair because, in his words, “your strength is in your hair.” Haaland ignored him. Ibrahimović’s reaction was brutal: “What did you do? You lost a bet or what? Block me and erase my number.” Even Pep Guardiola was shocked.
Yet Haaland seemed thrilled with the change. He even joked about how supporters might react if he scored with the new haircut.
Seeing his girlfriend’s new look shortly after Haaland’s social media post, another fan wrote, “like girlfriend, like boyfriend.”
For Johansen, meanwhile, the transformation came with another fresh start of her own. The couple, who grew up together in Bryne, Norway, have largely kept their family life away from the spotlight. They welcomed their first child in December 2024 but have chosen not to publicly reveal his name or share his picture.
That privacy has made the small glimpses they do offer particularly special for fans.
