Team USA’s Sydney McLaughlin Reveals How Allyson Felix Has Inspired Her in the Journey to Tokyo Olympics 2020

At age 21, American athlete Sydney McLaughlin is being hailed as the future of track and field in the U.S. She set the world record in the Woman’s 400-meter hurdles a few weeks ago at the U.S. Olympic trials.
In an interview with TODAY, she talks about what it’s like training with greats like Allyson Felix and what she gets to learn from them.

While on air, they asked Sydney McLaughlin whether she looked up to Allyson Felix, who she trains with. Sydney replied saying, “Absolutely, I looked up to Allyson the whole time I was growing up and watching track, so to be able to train with her now and bobby.
“The knowledge that they have, and experience I feel like every day I’m picking up and learning things that I can take with me throughout my career.”

Last summer Sydney started training with legendary coach Bobby Creese and Allyson Felix, she feels like she has improved a lot since training with them. The results are definitely showing as she broke the world record for the 400-meter hurdles.
Sydney McLaughlin’s career so far
Sydney McLaughlin won the Gatorade National Girls Athlete of the Year trophy for two consecutive years, 2015-16 and 2017-17. She also holds multiple age group world bests.

McLaughlin placed third in the 400m hurdles at the 2016 U.S. Olympic trials, making her the youngest athlete to qualify for the U.S. track and field team for the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.
She won the silver at the 2019 World Championships in the 400m hurdles; McLaughlin won the gold in the 4x400m relay at the same event.

McLaughlin is the first woman to go under 52 seconds in the 400m hurdle. She will look to replicate or even improve her performance at the Tokyo Olympics in search of gold.
