While Usain Bolt may not be competing in the Tokyo Olympics this year, he certainly did get his fear share of media attention in the build-up to it as he revealed the names of his twin sons on social media.

Named Thunder and Saint Leo respectively, fans widely discussed the choices as the news took Twitter by storm. While their first child was named Olympia, the twins were given a rather unusual name which led to an interest in it.

Speaking to The Mirror, the eight-time Olympic gold medallist finally broke his silence on the story behind the names. As it turns out, it was more of a stipulation involving his partner Kasi Bennett than an actual story.

“The rule was, when we were expecting Olympia, that if we had a girl Kasi got to name her,” he explained. “And if a boy, I got to name them. So that’s how it worked out.”

While he did win by the rules, Bolt admitted that his wife did have half a mind over ‘Thunder’ as a first name. “She wasn’t too hot on Thunder Bolt. But then she was like, ‘All right, let’s do it’.”

Usain Bolt revealed why he kept the second pregnancy a secret

Olympia was born last year, while the twin sons came this year. However, Bolt made sure not to make the same mistake as he did with the first child than with the twins. This pregnancy was kept away from the public eye for the entire time.

“People always want to ask questions or want to come over and hang out,” he said. “The last time, people were like, ‘Oh my God’ and all over her on social media. And she just wanted to have a quiet pregnancy.”

The absence of the unneeded attention made the experience stress free for Bennett, and Bolt does not regret his course of action. However, he does admit that tending to three children is much harder than running his 100m world record.

“When they start crying all together, it’s like pandemonium. You don’t know what to do. So it’s difficult but it’s so worth it,” he said.
