US Equestrian announced their the eventing and dressage teams for the Tokyo Olympics 2021. The teams include past medal winners and some living legends who will surely set the course on fire. For the jumping event, US Equestrian will announce the team on July 5th.

US Eventing Team for Tokyo Olympics 2021

Phillip Dutton will lead the US Eventing team for the Olympics at 57. The Australian-born equestrian rider will take part in his seventh Olympic Games, having won gold in 1996 and 2000. Dutton represented Australia in Atlanta and Sydney, but represented USA 2006 onwards. He won bronze for the US at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Joining Dutton in the eventing team is Elisabeth Halliday-Sharp. At 42, Elisabeth will make her Olympic Games debut in Tokyo. She hails from Lexington, Kentucky and is a former race car driver.

Rounding off the team is experienced equestrian rider Boyd Martin. Martin previously competed in the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, but failed to win a medal. However, he’s achieved success in the 2015 Toronto and 2019 Lima Pan American Games.

Dutton will ride a 13-year-old Zangersheide gelding named Z, while Halliday-Sharp will ride a 13-year-old KWPN gelding named Deniro Z. Boyd Martin will mount Luke 140, a 10-year-old Holsteiner gelding. Coach Erik Duvander will accompany the team to Tokyo along with reserve rider Doug Payne and his horse, Don John.

US Olympic Dressage Team

Leading the dressage team for the Tokyo Olympics 2021 is none other than Steffen Peters, a former bronze medallist at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The German-born veteran will ride Suppenkasper, with whom Peters won his sixteenth consecutive win at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival.

Steffen will join another German-born rider, Sabine Schut-Kery. This will be her first Olympic Games, a unique accomplishment for the 53-year-old. She will ride Sanceo, a fifteen-year-old stallion.

Rounding off the team is Adrienne Lyle, a silver medallist in the 2018 World Championships. This will be Lyle’s second Olympic appearance, previously competing at the 2012 London Games in the individual dressage event. She will ride Salvino, and their combination is one to watch out for, given their win Adequan Global Dressage Festival.

The announcement of the jumping team for the Tokyo Olympics 2021 is on July 5th. From the shortlist, Laura Kraut, McLain Ward and Jessica Springsteen are the favourites to so qualify for Tokyo.
