Shericka Jackson’s body betrayed her again in Lausanne, two years after a hamstring collapse ended her Olympic dreams.

At the 2026 Lausanne Diamond League, Jackson lined up for the women’s 200m in strong form. She had already run a season-best 21.87 seconds, putting her among the leading contenders. She appeared comfortable through the bend, but as the runners hit the straight, Jackson suddenly slowed, pulled up, and collapsed onto the track.

Medical personnel rushed to her aid, and she was taken away in a wheelchair. The injury appeared to involve her hamstring, though no official diagnosis has been released. With Jackson out, Kayla White won in 22.18 seconds, Britain’s Amy Hunt took silver in 22.32, and Nigeria’s Favour Ofili edged into bronze.

The result belonged to White, but the stadium’s focus was Jackson’s condition. Three-time Olympian Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith reacted on X: “Ooh lord !!! I hope she is ok 😩 Please lord 🙏🏿🙏🏿.”

Fans Left Worried by Jackson’s Latest Setback

Two years earlier, Jackson’s hamstring cramps in Hungary ended her Olympic hopes. Since then, she had fought back. Her comeback began in January 2025 with a 60m race in Kingston, where she clocked 7.18 seconds for second place. She then ran the 300m at the Miramar Invitational in April, finishing runner-up to Julien Alfred in 36.13 seconds. It was her first outdoor race of the season and her best ever over the distance.

By May, Jackson won the 100m in Rabat in 11.04 seconds. At the World Championships in Tokyo in August 2025, she reached the 100m final (10.88 seconds, fourth place) and claimed bronze in the 200m with 22.18 seconds. That medal capped a season defined by resilience.

Entering 2026, Jackson looked ready to reclaim her world champion status. She won the Shanghai Diamond League 200m in 22.07 seconds, then set a meeting record in Xiamen at 21.87 seconds. She also clocked 10.81 in the 100m in Kingston on June 19, confirming her return to elite form.

Jackson’s 2026 season included testing herself over 400m (52.04 win at Velocity Fest 18, 52.55 for second at Velocity Fest 19) and relay duty for Jamaica at the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone. She helped Jamaica advance and win the 4x100m final.

Her focus, however, was on the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest (Sept 11–13). The event promised major prize money and global attention, and Jackson was aiming to peak there.

Fans expressed heartbreak online. One fan wrote, “I think injuries have permanently cooked Shericka Jackson…” Another added, “What more can a person take. Hope it’s nothing too serious.”

Others pointed to her heavy workload and personal grief.
