The Tokyo Olympics 2020 is turning out to be less like a sporting affair and more like a live-action movie. With twists and turns on each day of the quadrennial showpiece, this year’s Summer Games is truly turning out to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
It was USA gymnast Simone Biles who grabbed headlines on Tuesday after she decided to forego her participation in the Olympic women’s gymnastics team finals. She cited the immense pressure she was under as the reason behind her decision to sit out the final. She put her mental health first and she deserves credit for that.

But a certain Slovenian Olympic cyclist has a different story to tell. Spoiler alert, it’s a funny one.

Slovenia’s Primož Roglič wins gold at Tokyo Olympics 2020
Primož Roglič was always one of the favourites to win gold at the Tokyo Olympic road cycling event on Wednesday. The 2017 world time trial silver medalist earlier withdrew from this year’s Tour de France after a crash. However, he made up for his absence by bagging Slovenia’s first gold medal at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics 2020.
But what made headlines was what happened after his triumphant victory.

As seen in the video above, the Slovenian cyclist continued pedalling despite successfully completing the race in pole position with the best timings. Roglič clocked in at 55:04.19 27 at the 4-mile (44.2-km) Fuji International Speedway-based course.
The veteran cyclist out-paced 37 of his competitors, by a comprehensive margin. Tom Dumoulin of the Netherlands won silver, followed by Australia’s Rohan Dennis who took home the bronze medal.

Back in 2019, he became the first Slovenian to win a Grand Tour with his first of two back-to-back Vuelta a Espana titles. The men’s time trial result brings an end to the 4-event Tokyo Olympic road cycling program. Next up is BMX racing which begins on Thursday.
