When is USWNT Playing Sweden in Their First Match of the Tokyo Olympics 2020

The United States Women’s National Team will have made their way to Tokyo for the upcoming Olympic games. The side is on a hunt for their fifth gold medal. They are alongside the likes of Sweden, New Zealand, and Australia in the group stages of the Olympics. The USWNT will take on fifth-ranked Sweden in their opening fixture of the competition.

The Olympics are set to start on 23rd July. However, the Soccer fixtures will commence from 21st July, two days prior to the opening ceremony. The biggest stars of women’s Soccer, the likes of Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan, Carli Lloyd, and more will grace the Summer Olympics for the USWNT.

The team is currently unbeaten in 44 matches. They are riding a 6-match winning streak as well. Needless to say, they are the most high-profile team in the entire competition. Also, the USWNT is considered as the ‘Team to Beat’ in the tournament.

It has been quite an incredible journey from the USWNT lately. Their latest win came against Mexico in a 4-0 triumph. So, their form is quite extraordinary as they head into the summer Olympics.

Sweden is also very respected as a team among the other participating countries in the group. So, fans might be in for fireworks when the Swedes clash against the USWNT on 21st July.

What to expect from the USWNT in the Tokyo Olympics?

There will be a total of 12 nations participating in the women’s soccer category. The teams will be divided into 3 groups of 4 teams. 2 teams will automatically qualify from each group. There will be two best third-placed teams from each group making their way to the quarterfinals.

After their match with Sweden, the USWNT will take on 22nd ranked New Zealand in their next match on 24th July. They defeated the Kiwis 5-0 in their previous meeting. Ninth-ranked Australia will be their last opponent in the group stages. The knockout phases of the tournament will begin from 30th July.

The USWNT will be entering the competition as the favorites. Whether they can live up to the high expectations is something that remains to be seen.
