This year’s Tokyo Olympics in Japan is an event that athletes have trained for since the conclusion of the Rio Summer Games in 2016. These professionals work round the clock in order to master their craft and win major honours for their country at the global event.
The quadrennial showpiece is often a tale of joyous triumphs, but also the narration of broken dreams. Botswana’s track and field athlete Nijel Amos was one of the favourites to challenge for a podium spot at the ongoing Olympic Summer Games in Tokyo.
He took part in semifinal #3 of the men’s 800m event. But to the shock of his coaches and viewers alike, his Olympic dream came to a premature halt.

Nijel Amos and Isaiah Jewett display true sportsmanship at Tokyo Olympics
27-year old Nijel Amos started today’s semifinal with a renewed sense of optimism. He was confident in his abilities and believed he had what it took to make it to the final and possibly even win gold for the small African nation of Botswana. However, Amos was part of a nasty collision with USA sprinter Isaiah Jewett which sent both athletes tumbling to the ground.
That, unfortunately, meant that it was the end of both their Olympic dreams, at least for this edition of the Summer Games. However, what happened next brought a smile to everyone watching.
