

Ahead of Milano Cortina 2026, Mikaela Shiffrin stamped her authority in the snow-clad mountains for the 102th time in the Levi World Cup Slalom in Levi, Finland just 10 days ago. Her dominance run continued with another World Cup win in Gurgl, Austria, even going as far as to calling it ‘her best skiing ever.’ However, while Shiffrin’s fate favored her, another young skiier wasn’t so fortunate. During the warm-up, Neja Dvornik sustained a season-ending injury that required surgical intervention.

Upon further examination at the hospital in Austria, doctors confirmed that she had suffered fractures of the right tibia and fibula above the ankle, which require surgery. After the surgery, she would have to head home to Slovenia, where she would require complete rest and rehabilitation, which puts her out of this season, which includes the much anticipated Winter Games too. The news was first broken through the FIS Alpine X handle.
