Novak Djokovic looks to be absolutely unstoppable in the 2021 season. After already capturing the Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon titles, the 20-time Grand Slam champion is showing no signs of slowing down. Next up on the World No.1’s agenda is the Tokyo 2021 Olympics.

In spite of withdrawals, star-studded lineup set for Tokyo

On the women’s side of the draw, former Slam winners such as Serena Williams, Bianca Andreescu, Victoria Azarenka, Simona Halep and Angelique Kerber have announced that they will not be participating in the Olympic Games. Defending Olympic champion Monica Puig is also set to miss out, as she is still battling injury. Headlining the women’s singles action will be reigning Wimbledon winner Ashleigh Barty, 4-time Major champion Naomi Osaka, and Poland’s Iga Swiatek.

Down on the men’s section, only one out of the ‘Big 3’ is going to be battling for gold at Tokyo. After the withdrawals of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, Serbia’s Novak Djokovic is the firm favorite. His main competition will be 2016 gold medalist Andy Murray, Greek sensation Stefanos Tsitsipas and Germany’s Alexander Zverev.

The Serbian machine will be battling opposition as well as potential fatigue in his quest for gold. However, Djokovic had previously made it clear that his goal is to secure the ‘Golden Slam’ (all four Slams and Olympic gold). And he will go all out to complete what he has set out to achieve.

“It is grueling (the schedule), but I am confident because of all of the wins this season,” said Djokovic. The Serb made his Olympic intentions clear. “Winning a medal is my goal, and it is not a secret that I am aiming for the gold. After the Olympics, I will start to think about the US Open.”

All eyes will definitely be on Djokovic at the Olympic Games. In 2016, ‘Nole’ dropped out of the tournament early on, losing to Juan Martin del Potro. The Argentine will be missing this year, but there is other stiff competition waiting to conquer the Serb. Can Djokovic do the unimaginable in his bid for the Golden Slam? Or will he find an arch nemesis put an end to his dream?
