And this time, he had to honor Fraser-Pryce after she literally passed the baton to the younger generation of Jamaican athletes in her final race. Ohanian took to X and stated, “Told you we had another surprise on deck! Gotta honor the one and only.” So, what was the honor?
On social media, Athlos announced, “Icons don’t just run fast, they move generations. ATHLOS honors Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce this Friday at Icahn Stadium, celebrating a lifetime of speed, excellence and legacy.” They shared a poster that claimed the Jamaican legend would step into the Icahn Stadium on Friday as the guest of honor. In the Instagram post made by Athlos, Ohanian commented, “🙌 you know we had to honor the great SAFP.”

‘Pocket Rocket’ kick-started her journey in competitive athletics back in 2007. And coincidentally, the venue was in Japan, the location of her last run. For 18 years, she has been amassing respect with her speed and stance on the track. In total, she has acquired eight Olympic medals (three gold, four silver, and one bronze), 17 World Championships medals (ten gold, six silver, and one bronze), and five Diamond League golds.

She ended her career as the third fastest woman in the 100m sprints, with a clock-in time of 10.60 seconds. And Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce did it all just for one reason – her love for her homeland, Jamaica.

Taking to Instagram, the 38-year-old athlete dropped a post with a retirement letter. She reflected on her career as a star athlete. No doubt, she had a few words of gratitude for her family and friends, especially her husband, Jason, and her son, Zyon. But in the second half of the letter, Fraser-Pryce’s love for Jamaica splashed through.

She wrote, “I am a proud daughter of the soil, and I owe an eternal debt of gratitude to Jamaica. To my fellow Jamaicans—thank you for your unyielding love, loyalty, and pride that have propelled me year after year.” ‘Pocket Rocket’ confessed that carrying the Jamaican flag across the international stages and representing Jamaica across the world was the greatest honor in her life. But in the end, age caught up with her, and she had to opt for retirement.
But Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce isn’t done yet! She stated, “I know my race is not finished; it is simply a lane change.” And Athlos honoring the athlete is one of the many honors that Fraser-Pryce is expected to receive in the coming days.
