What was meant to be a groundbreaking night for track and field quickly turned sour for fans. Just a week ago, Alexis Ohanian promised a seamless broadcasting experience for all the events on the roster of Athlos NYC. But it turned out to be a major debacle on the opening night, during the long-jump event, led by Tara Davis-Woodhall.

Hours before the 2025 Athlos NYC commenced, Ohanian shared a post on X, highlighting that they had a full house at Icahn Stadium. He thanked the fans and claimed that the “job’s not finished.” Later, he stated, “See you all at Times Square tonight for the Long Jump (free to the public) and then tomorrow night at Icahn (sold out) for the Main Event.” However, as the long jump commenced at the Times Square, many fans across the globe were left wondering about the livestream – as last week, the Reddit co-founder promised that events will be streamed live across platforms like X, DAZN, YouTube, ESPN, and ION.
One fan even asked Ohanian if the team would stream the long jump or whether the livestream is scheduled only for the second day. Well, Ohanian’s response didn’t please anyone. He replied, “Recording longjump but not streaming (long story) so if you wanna see it live, you gotta be here. Streaming everywhere tomorrow for the main event: ION, ESPN+, DAZN, Youtube, and here on X (follow @ATHLOS).”

This seemed like a giant contradiction. Remember the time when Brian Lawlor, the president of Scripps Sports, announced that Athlos would go live on ION. That vision seems to have taken a huge dip with the events of Thursday night in Times Square. After hours of anticipation, many fans flocked to the comment section to share their queries about how they can watch the event live from the comfort of their homes.

Fans pondered over Athlos NYC 2025 livestream debacle
In the weeks leading to the event, Athlos partenered with Scripps Sports to broadcast the events on ION. The broadcast deal arrived as the organization expanded its format, introducing a field event for the first time, all thanks to Tara Davis-Woodhall. However, when it was declared that the long jump qualifiers will not stream live, a fan decided mentioned, “This is impossible to find a live stream of Thursday night!”
The long jump lineup has Tara-Davis-Woodhall, Jasmine Moore, Monae Nichols, Quanesha Burks, Claire Bryant, and Jazmin Sawyers. But as these six jumpers graced the Times Square with their presence, the fans left wondering. When Athlos shared the lineup on X, a fan responded with, “How do we watch? Thought it was going to be live streamed here????” Another fan added to the notion and commented, “Where can we see it?”

Times Square was jam-packed with fans as star athletes jumped in to raise the hype around Athlos. When she arrived at Times Square, Athlos declared that the highlights would be on social media, and the recap would be put on broadcast the next day on ION, YouTube, X, and ESPN. To this, a fan reacted, “I really like the women’s long jump and I want to see the view of Times Square in New York, but it’s not live.”
Though many fans across the globe won’t be able to watch the events live, Athlos confirmed that the audience can catch the highlights. With this, there’s no other announcement about the broadcasting of remaining events. But fans stay certain to watch the other events live.
