“Trayvon knows his challenges aren’t a death sentence—they’re part of his journey.” Both Trayvon Bromell and the veteran who said this were Team USA track and field athletes at different points in their careers. But as the latter is now a retired legend, Bromell is still going at it. Recently, he showed that there’s still a lot of fuel in his tank, as he ran his fastest 100m race in three years. And that has now led him to get another well-deserved shoutout from this track expert. Here’s a detail on who he is.

We’re talking about none other than Justin Gatlin. On the Ready Set Go podcast in January 2025, Gatlin had appreciated Bromell’s skills, saying, “Trayvon’s talent lies in his adversity. He worked his way back to running times you wouldn’t expect after such an injury.” Gatlin pointed to Bromell’s remarkable recovery from the Achilles injury, which saw him return to clock a blistering 9.76 seconds at the 2022 Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi. That to date is the second fastest 100m time after Usain Bolt’s world record. But after that run, it’s today, on May 24, that Trayvon ran a second-best time. And once again, Gatlin has come out in his support.

Yes, at the Pure Athletics Global Invitational, Trayon Bromell clocked 9.91s in his 100m race, which becomes his second fastest 100m time after 2022. And it’s also the #2 on the world lead table, after Akani Simbine now. After this come to light, Justin Gatlin added an Instagram story for Bromell saying, “@iamtrayvonbromell is a testament.” He also added a quote that rightly suited Bromell’s comeback. He wrote, “Don’t Judge A Man On How He Falls, Judge Him On How He Gets Up!”

Well this isn’t the first time Gatlin is highlighting the resilience and faith that have defined Bromell’s career. He has spoken a lot about his incredible comeback after rupturing his Achilles during the 2016 Olympics. That kept him off track and field for three years. And once again, Bromell went through an injury in 2024, that kept him from competing at the Olympic trials. But Gatlin believes the man has gotten up now and is about to start a new chapter!

Trayon also went through a bone spur in his right foot that required surgery after the 2023 U.S. Championships. Thus, injuries have marred his career time and again. But irrespective, Justin Gatlin has always been confident that Bromell has it in him to be a dominant track force.
