“Training is going good. Getting back in that mode,” he declared around the start of May, 2025. But little did we know he’d pull off such a spectacle, this soon. In 2021, this track star was the one who had come the closest to Usain Bolt’s formidable mark in the 100m than anyone has in the last few years. And now? It looks like he’s slowly getting back into that form. No wonder the track and field community is stunned. Any guesses who he is?

Trayvon Bromell. Remember that name because what he’s just pulled off in the 100m is simply unbelievable. The 2025 season started for him with warm-up runs in the 60 metres. After a decent outing in that distance, he switched over to the 200, finishing on the podium in both his runs. But when he ran his first 100m run of the year recently, the results stunned everyone.

Yes, at the Pure Athletics Global Invitational, Trayvon Bromell just dropped a 9.91s (+0.7) timing in his 100m season opener. This is special because Bromell’s time is now the second-fastest in the world this season and his fastest 100m race since 2022, when he dropped a 9.76s time, which to date, remains the second fastest after Usain Bolt’s world record.

Thus, reacting to this, one of the track and field fans wrote, “Trayvon Bromell is back from the dead dominate the field with a 9.91 (0.7) clocking his fastest time since 2022. Will he flop again? I don’t know let’s see.” Well, after this performance, the only man faster than Bromell this season was Akani Simbine when he ran a 9.90s time at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix. But Bromell’s performance remains special, because its coming after a long break from the distance.

That is right, Trayvon Bromell ran this competitive 100m race after 10 months of running his last 100m in 2024, at the Holloway Pro Classic. That’s because in 2024, “Trayvon hurt his adductor in the race in Savona,” his agent told CITIUS MAG. “He has been feeling it on and off since then. It has been bothering him in training this week, so unfortunately, he won’t be ready for the Trials.” He didn’t get a chance to compete at the 2024 Olympics either.

But now, it looks like the man is in great form, hoping to bounce back this season, as the World Championships are lined up in September. And naturally, the track and field fans are elated at his comeback.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Trayvon Bromell the next big threat to Usain Bolt's legendary 100m record?

Track and field world lit up after Bromell’s 100m race

GOAT BACK BABY!!” responded one of the track and field fans after the news of Trayvon Bromell’s 9.91s time started making rounds. After all, Bromell is a 2x 100m World bronze medalist. He even finished 8th in the 100m at Rio, due to a troubling injury, after which, he had to take a three-year hiatus from the sport.

Yes, he was mostly off the track till 2020, going through a particularly significant dip in 2018. He says, “In 2018, I had nothing. I couldn’t run. I couldn’t do anything. The injury wasn’t getting any better. I wasn’t improving. I was just at a halt.” No wonder fans are now happy, looking at him making a comeback in the distance.

Awesome! Best of health and success to him,” said one of the fans. Well, health evidently has been a major issue for Trayvon, which has kept him back from running in peak form throughout his career. But hopefully, this year, he isn’t troubled by that. Thus, another fan wished, “prayers for a healthy season!”

However, a few of the track and field fans still appeared skeptical. One said, “Bro has a comeback every couple years lmao.” The athlete first got injured in 2008 with his right knee, and then in 2009 with his left knee and then in 2010 his hip. Also, he has battled Achilles injuries and setbacks with a bone spur between 2016 and 2020. Another backout caused by a lingering injury came as recent as February 2025.

Thus, the repeated pattern of his injuries and comebacks is now worrying a few fans. “idk I’m nervous still” said one. What do you think? Will Bromell finally show that fine form this season or no?
