Mya Lesnar donned the dark forest green sleeveless CSU singlet and the black compression tights for the last time as she stepped into the throwing ring at the 2025 NCAA Division I Outdoor Shot Put title on June 12, 2025, at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. The 23‑year‑old senior at Colorado State sent a statement that she was there to win with a calm first throw of 19.01 m. Her next-best mark of 18.87 m topped runner-up Abria Smith by two centimeters. Victory was hers—Brock Lesnar’s daughter had just won the NCAA shot put title. But what came next added a jolt of surprise – a message of congratulations—from President Donald Trump himself. What did he say?
Posting a picture of her with the NCAA trophy and a collage of her and Brock, both standing with their arms crossed, Trump wrote on June 19, “Congratulations to Mya Lesnar on the WIN— Great Genetics!”. Her dad, Brock Lesnar, notably claimed the NCAA Division I heavyweight wrestling title in 2000 while competing for the University of Minnesota, finishing the season with an outstanding 31–1 record. Now, what was her reply to the POTUS?
Taking a screenshot of Trump’s wishes, she uploaded them to her Instagram story and wrote, “THANK YOU MR. PRESIDENT. GOD BLESS AMERICA”. A lot of collegiate athletes have won NCAA titles across different sports, and even fewer of them get a chance to be congratulated by the United States president. She even tagged him in her story. While Trump might not share a direct connection with Mya or Brock, he has been a fan of professional wrestling, and somewhat of Brock as well.

Trump was inducted into WWE’s Celebrity Wing in 2013. He famously participated in the Battle of the Billionaires at WrestleMania 23 in 2007, shaving Vince McMahon’s head after Bobby Lashley (Trump’s proxy) defeated Umaga. In 2021, during a Triller MMA event, Trump asked Junior dos Santos about fighting Lesnar. “He was a bull. Coming very fast against you, so strong, so powerful. And he has some good speed for that size.” Dos Santos said.

Brock Lesnar’s official UFC record stands at 5 wins, 3 losses, and 1 no-contest. He won the UFC Heavyweight Championship in 2008 (in just his fourth UFC fight), defended it twice. It is through these fights that Brock Lesnar has made a name at the very top of professional wrestling. He created a show that ultimately would also shade his daughter. But Mya wanted to step out of it, and she just might have.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Mya Lesnar's success a testament to her own talent, or just 'great genetics' as Trump suggests?

Mya Lesnar might have stepped out of Brock Lesnar’s shadow
“I think I’ve been in his shadow for so many years, which is cool, I guess, but honestly, to me, at the end of the day, what I want people to know is he’s dad to me. I honestly don’t look at him as this superstar of a person. Him just being in my corner, and now me kind of being in the spotlight and him in my shadow a little bit, watching me, I think that’s super cool.” The statement came from Mya herself in a press conference before the Paris Olympics in July 2024. She had created history by being the first women’s indoor track and field National Champion in Colorado State history. A year later, maybe she is getting out of her dad’s shadow.

Mya Lesnar began her career at Arizona State and quickly transferred to Colorado State, where the domination began. In the 2023–24 indoor season, she broke the Mountain West indoor record with a 19.10 m throw and won the NCAA Indoor Championship at 18.53 m—the first indoor women’s field title in CSU history. That spring, she claimed the 2024 Mountain West Outdoor title with a 19.08 m mark and was named the conference’s Female Athlete of the Year.
In her final season, she threw 19.60 m at the 2025 Doug Max Invitational, breaking CSU’s all-time and facility records. A month later, she claimed her second national title at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a 19.01 m opening throw, securing CSU’s first outdoor title in two decades. Mya closed her NCAA career as a two-time national champion, four-time Mountain West champion, and one of the most decorated throwers in program history. What are your thoughts on this? Did she step out of his shadow?
