The 2025 track and field season has just not been sitting right for Christian Coleman. As phenomenal as the 60m world record holder was in 2024, he has been that cold in 2025. On Saturday, June 14, he experienced another low — and this time, it wasn’t just about the track or the race, but about how much respect is put on his name. The 29-year-old was present in the Star Athletics Sprint Series, where he finished the prelims in 10.03 seconds and the finals in 9.93 seconds of 100 meters, whereas the 18-year-old clocked 9.87 and 9.82, respectively. Now, in the heat of the moment, you are bound to make mistakes, especially for someone as young as 18. This athlete did exactly that by reportedly disrespecting Coleman and Sha’Carri Richardson.

What the witnesses and the reports say is that the 18-year-old, Maurice Gleaton, looked back at Coleman while crossing the line as he ran 9.82 in the finals of the Star Athletics sprint meet. Coleman said he felt disrespected and started shouting at Gleaton. Gleaton talked back, and Coleman had to be physically held back from going after him. As Gleaton was walking away, he shouted, “How do you get rolled by an 18-year-old?” And it just did not end here. Gleaton uploaded an Instagram story mentioning Coleman, where he said, “@coleman? now run tell dat 9.82 you rolled.” Quite the words for someone of Christian Coleman’s stature. But the 18-year-old was also wise enough to apologize and delete that story. What went down there, though?

On June 14, 2025, in the screenshot uploaded by Sha’Carri Richardson’s boyfriend the young athlete seemed to apologize as he said, “whats up christian i wanted to apologize about the altercation earlier with you and shacarri I respect what you told me right after the race i didn’t mean to be disrespectful or anything i truly look up to you and shacarri i was actually excited to race you and meet you two today i hope you can forgive me and i can meet you in the right way. sincerely Maurice.” A great apology from the young track and field athlete, but did Coleman forgive him?

Coleman’s reply to this text message read, “All love bro and respect. I ain’t even realize that was you who been doing yo big one in the city. Congrats on everything! Good race today and keep it rollin fasho ! I’m sure we’ll cross paths in the future, no pressure from me at all. You ever need advice or just wanna chop it up at any point during your journey, feel free to hit my phone bro.” He also wrote while uploading the story, “young bull🤝.

All seems to be sorted between these two track and field athletes for now, but it only adds to the fact that 2025 is not going well for the 29-year-old. Be it his track and field career or probably even his love life, if the rumors are true?

All has not been going good for Christian Coleman in 2025

In 2025, Christian Coleman has not won a single individual race. He opened his season on April 5 with a second-place finish in the 4×100 m relay at the Pepsi Florida Relays. On April 19, he ran 10.06 s in the 100 m at the Tom Jones Memorial, finishing third, and later helped the U.S. relay team win with 37.90 s. At the Xiamen Diamond League on April 26, he placed fourth in the 100 m with 10.18 s.

On May 3 in Shaoxing, he ran 10.13s for fifth. He improved slightly on May 18 in Tokyo with a 10.11 s, placing third. On May 31, he ran 20.66 s in the 200 m in Philadelphia, finishing sixth. The next day, he placed fourth in the 100 m at the same meet, clocking 10.12 s. And on top of all that, his love life may be in ruin.

What’s your perspective on:

Did Maurice Gleaton's bold move show disrespect, or is it just youthful confidence in action?

Have an interesting take?

There have been rumors of a potential breakup between Sha’Carri Richardson and Christian Coleman. The basis of this lies in the cryptic messages Richardson has been leaving on her X account. On June 13, she wrote a tweet, now vanished, which said, “One day I will receive the love I give out ❤️.” And what is also worse is that both Sha’Carri and Coleman have unfollowed each other on Instagram. But then again, Sha’Carri was there at the Star Athletics Sprint Series on June 14, so these rumors might just be rumors. What do you think?
