Is it confirmed? Without further ado, the answer is a resounding ‘no’ for now. It’s all just hearsay and rumor. It all began when Caribbean News Network took to X and kick-started the talks about Fraser-Pryce getting a Netflix documentary. The X post read, “#JAMAICA: Legendary sprinter, Shelley-Ann Fraser-Pryce, is reported to have signed a $13.5 million dollar contract with Netflix for a 7-episode series that will chronicle the “pocket rocket’s” inspiring journey in sprinting.” According to them, it wasn’t really a documentary. Instead, they depicted it as a tribute to the Jamaican sprinter. But there’s a catch!

Well, things are still a bit uncertain. But looking at the horizon, we can’t see the deal between Netflix and Fraser-Pryce turning into reality without a confirmation from either side. To add more fuel to fire, the same X handle, CaribbeanNewsNetwork, tweeted in another statement: “#JAMAICA: The series is said to not be a documentary but a tribute to the athletic legend Fraser-Pryce’s career on the track as a sports icon and inspiration.”

Considering how her career has gone in recent years, track and field fans would love to see her chronological rise to success on Netflix. There’s potential for fascinating crossovers with other Jamaican athletes and her peers for a cameo appearance in the documentary. However, the actual validity of the rumor is still uncertain. Fans hope to see her documentary, considering she didn’t appear on the ‘Sprint.’

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s absence in ‘Sprint’ disappointed fans

After the docuseries Sprint: The World’s Fastest Humans was released, Netflix attracted a shipload of attention. While many praised the series’ behind-the-scenes and never-before-seen footages, many others criticised the makers for omitting Fraser-Pryce’s feature. The first season of the athletics docuseries focused on Noah Lyles, Shericka Jackson, and others. The Jamaican star’s notable absence caused quite an uproar.

Even the second season of the docuseries had nothing to do with Fraser-Pryce. Instead, it centred around Gabby Thomas, Fred Kerley, Kishane Thompson, and Oblique Seville. But now, it’s high time we got a documentary about the retired Jamaican athlete. Notably, one moment fans would cherish will be passing the baton to the younger generation (Tia Clayton) from Fraser-Pryce during the relay events at the Tokyo WC.

As she bows out of the track and field events, it’s a page turn to the next chapter of her life. Her last race was more than symbolic. As per Alexis Ohanian, her crossing the finishing line was beyond poetic. What do you think of Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s documentary debacle? Are you also awaiting a feature film chronicling Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s journey?
