Time will honor your greatness. 2025🚀,” Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce captioned as she posted a video on her Instagram today. The video begins with a pulse—commentary, electric crowds, and Michael Bublé’s Feeling Good playing in the background. Beijing 2008 flashes: 10.78 seconds of pure gold. Shelly-Ann warms up, eyes blazing. As she walks forward, the sun crowns her silhouette—warrior, queen, unfinished icon. The beat drops. She explodes down the track. Darkness. A whisper. White text: “Unfinished business.”

Termed as Sha’carri Richardson’s greatest rival, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has returned to the track and field season, and she sure is looking to make it memorable. When she enters Doha again this year, a lot is at stake that she sure would like to break.

The Olympian debuted at the Velocity Fest #17 meet in Kingston, where she clocked a time of 10.94 (+3.1) in the women’s 100 meters event. Next time we see her? The woman is all set to return to the Diamond League in Doha. Last time Shelly was in Doha at the Doha Diamond League was on May 28, 2021. In that race, she clinched victory in the women’s 1001m, clocking a season’s best of 10.84 seconds. She outpaced Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare, who finished second with a time of 10.90 seconds, and the USA’s Javianne Oliver, who secured third place in 11.03 seconds.

But that is not the only thing that she has done in Doha. Just two years after giving birth to her son Zyon, she returned to the pinnacle of her sport in Doha to claim one of the most iconic golds of her career. At the 2019 World Athletics Championships, she stormed to victory in the women’s 100m with a blistering time of 10.71 seconds. When she crossed the finish line, not only was she the 2019 World Athletics champion in 100m, but she also became the first person, man or woman, to win four world titles in the 100m.

What FloTrack also reports is that talking of Doha, she has said, “Doha holds a special place in my heart, and I’m truly excited to return for this year’s Diamond League.” So when she joins the track in Doha alongside Tia Clayton, Mujinga Kambundji, Amy Hunt, and a to of other women track and field athletes, it’s going to be fun to watch.

Though it is easier said than it is done, Shelly-Ann clocked an astonishing 10.60 seconds in the 100 meters on August 26, 2021, in Lausanne—making her the third-fastest woman in diamond league history. And quite honestly, we are yet to see that Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

The road back isn’t smooth for Shelly-Ann

Let’s take our trains back to 2024—a year that tested Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce like never before. After a long break from competition, she cautiously stepped onto the track at the French Foray meet in Kingston, in mid-June 2024, clocking 11.15 seconds in the 100m. Although a win, 11.15 seconds for one of the most legendary track and field athletes? At the Jamaican Olympic Trials later that month, she improved to 10.94 seconds, earning a spot on her fifth Olympic team.

Next stop? 2024 Olympics – Fraser-Pryce entered the Paris Olympics with high hopes, advancing to the 100m semifinals with a time of 10.92 seconds. In Round 1, Heat 8, she secured the second position, next to Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith of Côte d’Ivoire (10.87). In the Olympics, there was a lot of buzz about seeing the best of the gone years vs the best of the coming years, Shelly vs Sha’Carri. That did not happen. Just before the semifinal, she withdrew due to a hamstring injury suffered during warm-ups.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce reclaim her throne, or will Sha'carri Richardson steal the spotlight?

Have an interesting take?

In April 2025, Fraser-Pryce returned to competition at Velocity Fest 17 in Kingston, clocking a wind-aided 10.94 seconds in the 100m heats. Despite the favorable wind conditions, her performance was the fastest of the day. She opted not to participate in the final, citing the long season ahead and the need to manage her health carefully. So when we next of her in Doha Diamond Leuage, is she going to be the first one to go past the finish line, and an even bigger question, would she be going past any records?
