March did not have the greatest of starts for Tara Davis-Woodhall. To start with, she has had a dream marriage with Paralympian Hunter Woodhall, but the couple were separated in that month because the Paralympian had to go see his father, who had undergone open heart surgery. While Tara? She stayed back only to run to her husband’s aid as he underwent an emergency surgery. Yeah, Hunter, who had gone to check on his father, ended up getting operated on. In a post after the surgery, the Paralympian said, “Just made it out of surgery, feeling pretty good. So everything went well, thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. Well, I’m straight. I didn’t need that appendix s—anyways.” Wonder how Tara responded?
“How are you still joking even in pain 😭😭 I wish I was there.” She was worried, tense; her husband had just gone under the knife, and here she was, miles and miles away. Eventually, she did make it to Hunter, but one can only imagine how she must have felt. Well, not anymore, as Hunter Woodhall has revealed her wife’s thoughts. Listen –
At the 2025 Prefontaine Classic Press Conference on July 4, 2025, Hunter Woodhall talked of his emergency appendectomy earlier this year. He said, “I went to visit him and the first day I got there, I was having some really bad abdominal pain and like I never go to the hospital, but I was like man, I’ll just sleep it off. I didn’t sleep at all. Woke up the next morning, I was like man, I’m still hurting.” It all began when salad with “some blue cheese on it” in Utah. COVID-19 had made him intolerant to different kinds of lactose, and so he reacted.

He continued, “I was like, Mom, can you just take me to the hospital? And they’re like yeah, your appendix is literally about to burst right now. So they just put me in a hospital room, did the surgery, took it out, and that was that.” All tests came back negative, and the CT scan confirmed he had appendix issues, and he had to go through an emergency appendectomy. He said that it wasn’t a big deal, given that his dad had an open heart surgery. But for Tara, she “thought I was literally dying, so she flew out the next day, so it was good.”

After finally arriving and reuniting with Hunter, Tara Davis‑Woodhall poured her heart out. She immediately expressed her overwhelming relief and gratitude, saying “Thank you Jesus for a successful surgery 🥹✨” on her social media, tears of thankfulness in her message. She also made a post which said, “I will never let Hunter go anywhere without me ever again😭 we were literally only away from each other for less than 24 hours.” For Hunter, it was a good experience because he got to spend some time with his dad. Previously, as well, Hunter had talked about how Tara got to him immediately. Though making it to her husband was not easy for the 2024 Olympic gold medalist.

Tara Davis-Woodhall had her fair share of struggles getting to Hunter
Hunter Woodhall and Tara had a lot of hurdles on their path to meeting each other. When Tara first heard of her husband going through surgery, her first reaction was to book a flight to Utah. In an Instagram story, she said with a worried look on her face, “So when I found out that Hunter had to get his appendix removed, I instantly booked a flight and so I booked my flight for today at 7 a.m., and I was supposed to get here around like 8:55 a.m.” But only if it had been that easy.
The very next story of the long jump champion revealed the very first hurdle on her track: weather. She revealed, “Dude, Kansas got the craziest blizzard overnight and this morning I had to wake up at 3 a.m to get to the Kansas City airport and dude, my flight got delayed three and a half freaking hours, but do not fret. Two minus, however, many hours.”

In such situations, once the blizzard ends, the runway can be cleaned, and then the planes are good to go. Ideally, that is what should have happened, and it indeed did, but only much later. Tara Davis-Woodhall provided another update of how things went worse; posting a picture of the planes parked on a snowy runway, she wrote, “Said storm. The city didn’t send plows to the airport so we had to wait for them to come.”
When you need luck, you don’t have it, do you? The American decided to ditch the idea of flying altogether and took a 2.5-hour drive to the love of her life. Thoughts on her struggles? Let us know in the comments box.
