In Heat 6 of the women’s 400m on August 5, 2024, Junelle Bromfield ran good, finishing 3rd in 51.36s to secure her place in the Olympic semifinals, just behind Rhasidat Adeleke and Alexis Holmes. But in Semi-Final 1, things didn’t go her way. She clocked 51.93s, placing 8th, the slowest across the semis. Top spots went to Salwa Eid Naser (1st) and Rhasidat Adeleke (2nd), both securing final qualification. Bromfield’s Paris journey ended there, and many believed her track career, too.

Finishing last must have been disappointing for her, and not to mention the hate she received after Noah Lyles revealed that she told him what happened in the Jamaican camp. She received death threats and was even called a traitor. Reportedly, she has not been to Jamaica since then because she is afraid of the death threats, and has not been on the track either. While there has been no news of her getting back to any of them, there is something else she is trying to get back to.

The Jamaican sprinter took to her Instagram story today, where she could be seen lying on the ground, leaning forward on her elbows, resting her head on her hand, looking down with a tired expression on her face. Her caption alongside the picture explained it all. She wrote at the top right, “I was warned 😭😭😭”. But what was it about?

She explained, “Wanted to gain weight so bad went up 15 lb. Now I’m trying to get back my abs and 20 sec planks are hard.”  We have all been there, struggling with a 20-30 second plank, but this is Junelle Bromfield. She has run at the biggest stage of all – the Olympics. A 20-second plank would have been a piece of cake for her. And while we are not sure who exactly warned her about the same, those extra fifteen pounds can indeed make core exercises feel tougher.

The Jamaican has been very active on her Instagram stories, giving her fans updates on her life.

Like back when she showed how she supported Noah Lyles. Or when back in June, the Jamaican athlete reshared a post from the Paris Olympics. It was an iconic picture, but it had a painful confession.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Junelle Bromfield's comeback inevitable, or has the backlash permanently sidelined her track career?

Junelle Bromfield had a painful confession

The picture captured Bromfield as she was seen in her memorable appearance at a 400m semifinal, where she found the confidence to wear her natural look. A few days ago, she posted about her decision to forego makeup, wigs, and filters, with the caption: On to the next round 🥳 Embracing my natural beauty, NO MAKEUP, NO WIG, NO FILTERS. 100% melanin.” True to her word,  she ran in a high Afro puff as she promised, flaunting her natural tight coils.

Going back to that day, she made a confession in her IG story. “This was my hair shrinked. Now I don’t even have half of this blown out. 😭😭😭 I will be in wigs and braids until my hair grow back 😐” Fans know Bromfield loves switching up her hairstyles, and this has become an essential part of her personality and public image. At the time of her engagement with Noah Lyles, she donned a braided hairstyle. Just weeks later, as they settled into a new home, she posted another Story showing off sleek, straight hair.

But now, as we wait for her to come back on track, we surely hope to see her flaunting curls, once again.
