After navigating a turbulent summer filled with triumphs and criticism, Noah Lyles turned the spotlight toward his personal life when he asked Jamaican Olympian Junelle Bromfield to marry him in August 2024. Their engagement, staged among candles and a heart of pink flowers, capped a season that tested both their athletic resolve and their relationship. Only a year later, now, his younger brother Josephus has placed family matters at the center of the track community’s conversation.

The Lyles household has long been close-knit, with both brothers welcoming their partners into that circle. Bromfield was often seen alongside Noah during the Games, even recalling the moment he carried her forgotten spikes at the Olympic Village back to her room after winning the men’s 100m final on August 4, 2024. By spring 2025, the two couples were pictured together at the Lyles Brothers Foundation event, celebrating achievements both on and off the track. One that is now extended by Josephus’s announcement.

Josephus Lyles has announced his engagement to American sprinter Angie Annelus in a series of photographs on Instagram. The pair appeared in black and white attire, with them sharing passionate, romantic moments. Josephus captioned the post, “You, me, forever…” Angie, too, didn’t hold back on showing off the read, either with a kiss or with the “Will you MARRY ME” light in the background.

The images quickly circulated, drawing responses from across the athletics world. Former Olympic champion Justin Gatlin wrote a heartfelt message, while Bromfield, who has experienced her own share of scrutiny in recent years, added words of encouragement. Their reactions reflected how deeply the Lyles brothers’ private milestones resonate within the larger sprinting community.

Annelus brings her own remarkable history to the union. A two-time NCAA champion in the 200 meters for USC in 2018 and 2019, she edged Sha’Carri Richardson by less than a hundredth of a second in the latter final. Later that summer, she placed third at the US Championships, qualifying for the World Athletics Championships in Doha. There, she reached the 200m final and finished fourth. But her story extends beyond competition.

Her father, Annessoir, was once a captured prisoner during a coup d’état in Haiti before escaping and later settling in Kansas City. This background, coupled with her athletic record, has made her a respected figure in American sprinting circles.

The announcement of her engagement to Josephus was not unexpected, though.

The pair had been spotted together as early as September 2023, when Bromfield posted a video of them playfully finger-tutting, only days after their vacation in Cancun. Both athletes, signed with Adidas, were seen enjoying horseback riding, zip-lining, and beach runs during their break. By now, their bond had become evident, and their presence alongside Noah and Bromfield reinforced the family’s enduring solidarity. In light of Josephus’s proposal, those earlier glimpses of companionship take on new meaning, offering a portrait of two brothers whose successes and struggles remain interwoven not only through sport but through shared family celebrations

Track community showers love as Josephus Lyles gets engaged to Angie Annelus

Junelle Bromfield’s “Yesssss 🔥🔥🔥❤️ congratulations 🍾🎊 I love you both” reflects her personal involvement in the Lyles family’s milestone. Having experienced her own engagement with Noah in 2024, Bromfield’s enthusiasm underscores the continuation of shared celebrations within the household.

And track legend Justin Gatlin’s “Congratulations bro 🔥❤️🔥” highlights the respect Josephus commands among track veterans. Gatlin, a former Olympic champion, has seen multiple generations of sprinters rise. So, his comment positions Josephus’s engagement not just as a family moment, but as a development followed by the wider athletics community, linking personal milestones with broader recognition.

When Twanisha TeeTee Terry shared, “my friend a fiancee 🥹❤️,” reposting the duo’s update on her Instagram story, it pointed to the peer bond within US sprinting circles. Terry, herself a rising star, acknowledged Angie Annelus’ progression from collegiate titles and international appearances to personal life changes, placing emphasis on friendship and solidarity within the sprinting ecosystem beyond competition.

Then there was Jereem Richards’ “Blessings @angieannelus Anggggggggggggiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeee❤️.” It resonated with Annelus’s personal story. Given her father’s past struggles and her own climb to becoming a World Championship finalist, Richards’s blessing recognized both the hardship and joy that frame her journey, emphasizing her respect across the Caribbean and American sprinting networks.

Alia Armstrong’s emotional “Stoppp CONGRATS YALL🥺😭✨💕💕💕💕💕” reflected how the young athlete is super enthusiastic about Annelus’s engagement to Josephus. Armstrong’s excitement illustrates how Annelus’s progression from student-athlete to fiancée represents an inspiring shift that resonates with the newer generation of American track competitors.
