With most athletes looking forward to the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, we might miss out on a powerful name. And that’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn. She etched her name in the record books when she ran 100m in 12.26 seconds at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Later, she conquered the gold in just 12.37 seconds. As one of the fastest hurdlers in history, Camacho-Quinn has to train vigorously to ensure she stays in peak condition. However, her journey is riddled with lower leg injuries, preventing her from potentially dominating the 2025 World Championships. And now, she’s shared a heartfelt message with her fans regarding her foot injury.
Jasmine Camacho-Quinn’s constant troubles with injuries began with a hurdle mishap at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Plus, intermittent calf and Achilles soreness have bothered her quite a bit. But it was in 2024 when she experienced a more serious injury. With discomfort in her calf, foot, and Achilles’ tendon, the Olympian was forced to pull out of the Silesia Diamond League. She had to prioritize rehabilitation over competition. And now, the Puerto Rican athlete was forced to make a similar decision.
Taking to Instagram, Camacho-Quinn shared a picture of herself at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest. In the caption, she stated, “Hey everyone ❤️ I wanted to give you all a quick update. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been dealing with a foot injury and trying to find the right balance between training and rest.” Let’s get this straight. Muscles and tendons repair themselves during rest, and that takes a significant amount of time.

The absence of proper rest often leads to worsening of the damage as more muscle fibers get torn in training, leading to an increase in inflammation. With Camacho-Quinn’s history of Achilles’ troubles, her tendonitis might develop into tendinosis, which can take months or even years to heal. So, the best course of action for the Olympic gold medalist is to rest and ensure that she heals completely before returning to the tracks.
Jasmine Camacho-Quinn continued, “It’s been tough…. Pushing too much slows the healing, but resting too much affects my race sharpness. With the World Championships just a month away, it’s looking less and less likely that I’ll be at my best by Tokyo. The good news is my foot is getting better and I’m confident I’ll make a full recovery in due time🙏🏽. Right now, my biggest priority is my long-term health and success. I’m going to keep working smart so I can come back healthier. I truly appreciate all the love and support❤️🇵🇷.”
Soon after the elite hurdler dropped the message on Instagram, her fellow athletes and fans swooped to the comments section to express their concern.
