Olympic Medalist Sends A Message To Taylor Swift Over Engagement With Travis Kelce

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨” – ten words that broke the internet yesterday. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are engaged. And since the announcement, Citius Mag is on a mission. With the Diamond League Final going on, there was no better place to find the best track and field athletes, especially Olympic Champions. But they had an interest in someone specific.

They had to get a reaction to the Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce engagement news from the Swiftie with the fastest mile PB in the world. 1500m Paris Olympics bronze, Yared Nuguse clocked a time of 3:46.63 at the 2025 Millrose Games to claim that title. Citius Mag reporter caught up to him and asked, “gonna start with the most important question of the day, what’s your reaction to the Taylor Swift engagement?”

The Olympian answered, “Yes, I know it was crazy…I mean, not that surprised she seemed very happy with him, very happy for her, and Travis obviously, um, I don’t know, it’s just always great, I just love love in general, so I know it’s good to see her find someone, that person that she meshes with.” And there is no counter to his words.

Recently, on an episode of New Heights, she shared many sweet words for her “handsome” boyfriend of nearly two years, including that he was like a “human exclamation point.” Another example?

At the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2024, Swift won the Video of the Year for “Fortnight” with Post Malone. In her thank you speech, she expressed gratitude to many, Travis being one of them. She said, “Everything this man touches turns to happiness and fun and magic. So, I want to thank him for adding that to our shoot because I’ll always remember that.” Yareg Nugue must have been watching all of these to notice the pop icon being happy around Travis, and why would he not? He is a big Swiftie.

Yared Nuguse is a big Taylor Swift fan

The Goose is a big fan of Taylor Swift. Following his Bronze in the 1500m at the Paris Olympics, Nuguse thanked Taylor Swift in his Instagram post.

He uploaded a picture and wrote a caption to thank everybody who made him reach that milestone. A part of that caption read, “@taylorswift for the inspiration on the amazing shirts.” Nuguse’s teammates and friends from Notre Dame made custom Yared Nuguse and Taylor Swift Eras Tour T-shirts to wear as they cheered on Nuguse to a bronze medal in the men’s 1,500m.

Even before that, Nuguse went to Las Vegas in March 2023 to attend Swift’s Eras Tour. The caption read, “We are too busy dancing to get knocked off our feet.” As he was seen singing and dancing to Taylor Swift’s You Need To Calm Down song, fans couldn’t hold back their excitement, discovering Yared Nuguse to be a Swiftie!

But as of now, Nuguse is focused on getting the gold in Tokyo World Championships, and he also has his eye on the 2028 Olympics – an achievement he hopes will grant him the opportunity to at last meet Swift. In an Instagram post shared by USATF just a day before the 2024 trials, he could be heard saying,  “Shout out to Taylor Swift…maybe I can meet you one day when I win everything ever.”

His favorite song? “It’s been a big pop song. Struggle’s always been my favorite song. You look around. Struggle’s always been like, you belong with me, but it’s kind of been like leaning on my shoulder. There’s a lot of them, honestly. There’s a lot of them.” Well, that’s a problem a lot of Swifties struggle with.
