Mondo Duplantis has done it again! For the 13th time in a row, the Swedish pole vaulter has set another world record with just 1cm advancement. He made a 6.29m leap at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest on 12th August 2025. It seems like Duplantis has found the glitch in the matrix. After all, the minimum bonus award for breaking a world record, according to the Diamond League regulations, is $50,000. And now, Puma has reacted to Duplantis’ trend of breaking his own records by just 1cm each time.

It seems like Puma is getting tired of Duplantis’ trend of breaking his own records, that too by so a thin margin. When Citius Mag shared the Swedish pole vaulter’s achievement, Puma Running simply pleaded, “Please give us a rest 🥺.”

Puma’s contract with Mondo Duplantis is reportedly around a million dollars per year. However, the exact bonuses from Puma for breaking the world records aren’t known. Nevertheless, Citius Mag claimed, “PUMA keeps shelling out these world record bonuses to Mondo Duplantis 💰.”

Mondo Duplantis became a part of the Puma family in 2019 and has been garnering accolades ever since. The Global Head of Running Sports Marketing, Pascal Rolling, previously said, “We are confident that Mondo will leave a huge and memorable mark in the sport of Track and Field, as have many of our athletes.” And needless to say, Duplantis managed to ensure that he stood up to the expectations.

Of course, it’s nothing novel for athletes to milk the bonus system.

Previously, Sergey Bubka dominated the pole vault routines in the 1980s and the 1990s. He used to keep breaking his own records, and over his active tenure, he broke 35 of them. But what does the modern-day Bubka (Mondo Duplantis, obviously) think of such a trend?

Mondo Duplantis doesn’t really mind breaking his own records by a minimal margin

During a conversation with Tiara Williams, not too long ago, Mondo Duplantis weighed in on the debate around his world record stance. He confessed, “I got to make a living, you know? A man’s got to make a living…And there is a bit of a glitch, you could say, whatever you want to say. For sure. But, man, I got to do what I got to do. That’s pretty much at the end of the day. Collect it, yeah. Yeah, but I see this stuff. I see this stuff a little bit.”

Regardless of how many times the record is broken, the major track leagues award hefty prize money to the athletes breaking the records. And with multiple bonuses in his bank account, Duplantis revealed his opinion on the system. “But I think that’s a good thing, you know? There’s not so many people that I guess are making an abundance of bread in track and field. And so I guess that’s a good thing that I can capitalize on things.”

With financial struggles shrouding the track and field athletes, Duplantis’ trend-setting acts often motivate others. After all, he has now earned an estimated total of a million dollars just from breaking the 13 world records. And the best part? This act is adding to the 25-year-old’s multimillionaire status.

Surely, more to come, and we have more to witness – the sheer beauty of Duplantis…
