“The definition of overcoming adversity! Stayed focused and got the job done! Super proud of you, big sis.” That was Quincy Wilson’s message after his girlfriend, Solai Russell’s elder sister, Masai Russell, stunned the world last year. Russell, who had struggled to win any NCAA, SEC outdoor, or national titles in 2023. But she turned her performance upside down in her 2024 season, when she ran 12.25 at the Olympic Trials, the fifth-fastest 100m hurdles time ever. And she didn’t stop with that win!
Rather, Russell carried that fire to Paris, where she struck Olympic gold in 12.33 seconds. Later, at Athlos, she closed her season with a 12.44, finishing third, but called it her ‘catch-up’ moment. “Rookie season was a dream,” she reflected, calling it just the beginning. Now, in 2025, Masai Russell did something as jaw-dropping. And yes, Quincy Wilson’s watching it.
Well, the blazing sun in Miami witnessed it. On May 2 in Grand Slam Track, Masai Russell put on a show for the ages. Washington native, didn’t just win this time around but also smashed the American record in the 100m hurdles, running 12.17 seconds to break Kendra Harrison’s 12.20 mark set back in 2016 during London Müller Anniversary Games. Masai exploded out of the blocks and held off a charging compatriot, Tia Jones (12.19), and Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent (12.34). And of course, Quincy Wilson didn’t miss a beat. Just hours after Masai Russell scorched the Miami track, Quincy hit Instagram with the kind of brother energy that only he can bring.

He reposted a post celebrating Masai beaming in her black-and-white Nike kit, track banner in hand, with that ‘just shocked the world’ look on her face. His caption? “12.1! beyond proud ❤️! you did say you were locked earlier today 😂 @masai_russell.” Thus, it seems before the race Masai promised Quincy about the outcome, and let’s just say, she didn’t just deliver but served! That time also made her the second-fastest woman in history, just 0.05 seconds shy of Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan’s world record, which she set in World Athletics Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene in 2022.

But that one line from Quincy for her ‘big sister’, for his girlfriend’s Solai Russell’s sister said it all, the kind of admiration, hype, and inside jokes only athletes like them understand. Honestly, it felt like a full-circle moment. From cheering her Olympic breakthrough last year to this record-breaking start in 2025, Quincy’s been there. And if Masai keeps flying like this, he’ll be posting a lot more.
But it’s not just Masai lighting up the track! Even her younger sister, Solai Russell, is turning heads too, showing that talent truly runs deep in the Russell family. And Quincy? Well, he’s already rewriting history.

For the Russell sisters and Quincy Wilson, track is their playground
Let’s start with the youngest spark, Solai Russell. She’s still in high school but already racing like a pro. This March, she won 60m hurdles at The Circuit Philadelphia, where she finished 1st with 8.67, and back in February, she finished 2nd at the East Coast Invitational, clocking 8.84s, and it’s clear: Solai isn’t just Masai’s little sister anymore!

Then there’s Masai Russell, the queen of the hurdles. April was a warm-up in 12.74 in Des Moines and 12.62 in Gainesville, but May 2nd? Boom. She flew to 12.17s at Grand Slam Track Miami. It wasn’t just a personal best; it tied the second-fastest time in history. Talk about a statement.

And let’s not forget Quincy Wilson. Back in January, he narrowly missed gold to Salvodon in the 500m. But by February? He bounced back with a jaw-dropping 45.66s in the 400m at the New Balance Grand Prix, breaking the U18 world best and dusting pros like Will Sumner and Jereem Richards.
