At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Sha’Carri Richardson arrived with sky-high expectations. Following her explosive 2023 World Championship triumph in Budapest, many believed the 100m Olympic gold was hers for the taking. But when the moment arrived, Richardson faltered in the final stretch as Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred stunned the world to snatch gold, leaving Sha’Carri with silver. Her golden quest remains unfulfilled, and with her 2025 season unraveling, the road ahead looks rough. Yet, just when fans thought the drama had peaked, a British standout has come forward to warn Richardson and even Gabby Thomas.

On October 7, the 23-year-old British sprinter Amy Hunt joined Spencer Matthews on ‘Untapped’ for a conversation about the future of her sport and her own journey. During their chat, Spencer leaned in with a question that carried both curiosity and challenge, “So, you have another World Championships before the Los Angeles Games. But I mean, the Olympics are the Olympics, right? Are you going to win in Los Angeles?”

Well, Hunt is planning on clinching three golds, “Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure. The aim is to get three golds — the 100, 200, and relay. That would be really, really cool. Three goals. Very heavy neck, but that’s the plan.”  With this, Hunt certainly is posing a challenge to Sha’Carri Richardson as well as Gabby Thomas.

Interestingly, Hunt made her presence felt at the World Championships by clinching the silver medal in the 200m. Reaching the finish line, she edged out Jamaican sprint great Shericka Jackson for second place, while Melissa Jefferson-Wooden completed a dominant clean sweep of the sprint titles after winning gold in the 100m. Dina Asher-Smith finished fifth. Claiming her first World Championship medal, Hunt is brimming with confidence that she can work the same magic at the upcoming Olympics.

“As soon as I saw my mum, I burst into tears. I knew I could do it as long as I put in a good turn and was with them off the bend. I am so proud of myself.” Hunt has a personal best for the 100m stands at 11.02 seconds, set in August 2025 at the UK Athletics Championships in Birmingham, while her 200m personal best, a blazing 22.08 seconds, came at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Well, that’s not all, the athlete is looking forward to running in the 400m as well.

Amy Hunt reveals her plan for the 400m ahead of the LA Olympics

During the same conversation with Spencer Matthews, Hunt was asked about her future plans, specifically whether she might excel in the 100m or 400m, given her impressive performances in the 200m. Answering the question, Hunt explained that she has plans for the future; however, for now, her focus is on staying at the top in the 200m. “I think everyone wonders if I’ll move up to the 400m. It’s something people are very eager for me to attempt. But that’s a step we’ll take eventually. Right now, we want to maximize what I can achieve in the 200 and 160 before moving on to longer distances,” Hunt said.

She went on, “The 400m will always be there, but my current priority is to make the most of my raw speed. I’m still young, and I also compete in the 100m and the 60m indoors, which takes place in January and February. Even at the most recent World Championships, I was racing both the 100m and 200m, which meant going through six rounds over six days. It’s definitely a lot.”
