When Athos returned to the Big Apple last week, the league wanted to make a statement. Hence, as they introduced the first field event this year, Alexis Ohanian took the sport’s premiere to Times Square. And with the viewership the long jump garnered, Athlos’ advisor-owner Tara Davis-Woodhall became certain that this year’s event created a huge impact in terms of viewership. Now, after the successful conclusion of the 2025 Athlos NYC, she is turning her attention beyond the runway. Her message is directed squarely at the sport’s newest followers.

Davis Woodnall appeared on episode #501 of ‘The GIST of it’ podcast. Therein, the Associate Managing Editor of the podcast, Lauren Tuiskula, asked the long jump star for some advice for the new fans. As the track and field enters the off-season, the new fans that she gained will have trouble staying engaged with the sport. So, how can they keep the momentum going? Well, the long jumper has a solution.

She asked the new fans to follow collegiate track and field and the indoor seasons. They’d even get to follow their favorite sports team, and that would help them stay glued to the sport. Tara Davis-Woodhall said, “There are opportunities for you to follow track. You just have to find it right now, because the accessibility and the access to track is very difficult. But if you can find a way, there will be a way, you can make it work.”

Tara Davis-Woodhall credits Athlos NYC for the fans’ newfound love for field

When Tara Davis-Woodhall joined Athlos as one of its advisor-owners, she wanted to include a field event in the league. And, Alexis Ohanian made good on his promise by announcing the addition of the long jump to his track and field venture.

Now, Athlos has been gaining followers and viewership at a pretty impressive rate, with more than 3.75 million people tuning in to watch this year’s event. It was also the first event to hold a long jump competition at Times Square. And that certainly helped the field get some spotlight. It helped Davis-Woodhall transform the sport and bring it to the front lines.

Tara Davis-Woodhall stated, “Bringing long jump to the middle of Times Square, the middle of New York City, I feel like that’s changing the game. What fans should expect when they come to watch me in the middle of Times Square is entertainment, pure, pure entertainment. I feel like tourists are here to look at something, to be entertained. And so, why not me? I’ll be your entertainer for the night.”
