Kishane Thompson is back! And he is living up to the expectations one has from a 100m Olympic silver medalist. Not that he wasn’t before. He had already registered wins in 4 out of 5 individual races this season. But the fifth one that he just added is surely a cut above!

At the 2025 Racers Grand Prix this Saturday, Kishan Thompson was going up against a stacked field. There was Oblique Seville and the U20 World Champion (also former world lead this season), Bayanda Walaza. But when D-Day arrived, none was a match for Thompson!

Yes, at the Racers Grand Prix 2025, Kishane Thompson ran a blistering 9.88-second season best to grab the top spot in the race. His time is now the fourth fastest time in the world this season. Also, in doing so, he left Bayanda Walaza in the dust as the youngster followed in fourth in 10.06 seconds, missing the podium entirely. And not just Bayanda Walaza, Kishane Thonpson also held off last year’s Racer’s Grand Prix 100m winner, Oblique Seville, who clocked in seconds in 9.97s.

But Walaza’s loss was the most unexpected of all. Before the race, he’d said that, “This sport is a sport where you have to face your fears. I’ll say I have fears of racing people and I’ll need to get over that.” And he surely did that. At just 19, he was lined up against some of the most incredible 100m sprinters from Jamaica. This in itself is an honor right?

But Kishane Thompson, on the other hand, was looking too good. He had the second fastest reaction time of the day with 0.159 on the board. Even though he may have had a few frustrating days previously, when he got disqualified from both the World Athletics relay races without any mistake of his own, this was quite a bounce back for the man. This only goes to prove that this track and field analyst was, after all, right in his judgment.

Kishane Thompson is looking in great shape for 2025

On the Final Leg Track & Field podcast, Anderson Emerole put forth his opinion about Kishane Thompson’s form recently. He said, “Kishane…he’s in great form right now. He’s been running frequently this season, and this might be his last outing before the Jamaican trials.” And as it was expected, Thompson lit up the screens with another sub-10s performance, his second one this season after the 9.99s one earlier.

Emerole also cited, “He looks healthy and confident…he’s probably eyeing that world lead.” Well, unfortunately, Thompson just missed that by just 0.04 seconds! Well, yes, that’s how close the 100m timings are dipping this season. But for someone with a mindset like Thompson’s, it’s hardly ever difficult.

Earlier this season, the only time Kishane Thompson missed the top spot this year was when he suffered a marginal loss to Akani Simbine at the Diamond League. But that didn’t discourage him. He came back strong at the Racers Grand Prix! But even if he hadn’t won, Emerole believed that this race would have benefited him greatly as an athlete. “Every race like this sharpens him for what’s to come.” So are we looking at a world lead next?
